Hello everyone! Your favorite fedibirdy is back over here on thesocial.zone!

My main area of interest is gaming- particularly #retrogaming. I adore the #msdos era up through the early 00s. Games like DooM, Duke3D, Quake, EverQuest, and Starsiege Tribes.

#Retrocomputing and #retrotech bring me so much joy. As I've aged I find myself stereotypically looking back to my childhood and missing it immensely. I was quite the nerd falling in love with computers the moment I could connect to local BBS on my mom's work PC. I put that i386 9600baud Hayes machine through its paces.

#Horror is another love of mine. Every week I watch at least one horror film, and I never grow tired of them. It's the only film genre I continuously am excited for.

And, of course, #birds! These precious animals mean the world to me. They bring me peace and happiness just simply watching them from my living room window. Ever since a pair of sparrows nested in my garage many years ago have I been enamored with them.

Well, do I have the video for you!

The second expansion for Barren Planet is Waterworld. Dapra's neighbouring planet Dalen is over 95% covered with water. And at the bottom of these oceans: crystal nodes! Let battle commence! Get it at http://dos.cyningstan.org.uk/downloads/7/barren-planet.

cyningstan,
@cyningstan@mastodon.social avatar

The construction and repair units in Waterworld are static, while the harvesting units are mobile. This is a reversal of roles compared to The Polar Expedition, and gives players of this campaign some new strategies to experiment with.

cyningstan,
@cyningstan@mastodon.social avatar

The Port is a static unit found on the coast of the numerous islands that pierce Dalen's oceans. The port has facilities to build and repair other units. It has little of its own defence, and needs protecting from attack by other units.

cyningstan,
@cyningstan@mastodon.social avatar

Mining boats are as important as the Ports: they sail out to the crystal nodes and harvest the resources. Since they're mobile, they can retreat from attack. They are small enough to venture near the sandbanks where other ships would run aground. #barrenplanet #ibmpc #msdos #cga

cyningstan,
@cyningstan@mastodon.social avatar

Hoverbugs, the small anti-gravity combat vehicles familiar from earlier campaigns, are present here on Dalen. They can hover over land or shallow water, but are not stable enough to cope with the rolling waves of the deeper ocean.

cyningstan,
@cyningstan@mastodon.social avatar

Air Fighters are another unit brought over from Dapra. They can fly over anything except volcanoes, whose eruptions are too dangerous for airborne traffic to venture near. Air Fighters have a longer attack range than Hoverbugs or Ports.

The eight baronies in The Anarchic Kingdom take the names of eight noble families of medieval England. Take control of one of them at http://dos.cyningstan.org.uk/downloads/64/the-anarchic-kingdom

cyningstan,
@cyningstan@mastodon.social avatar

The size of your settlement in The Anarchic Kingdom reflects your strength compared to the other baronies. A bustling walled city shows that you're ahead. Download the game at http://dos.cyningstan.org.uk/downloads/64/the-anarchic-kingdom

The terrain on the horizon in The Anarchic Kingdom is purely decorative, but differs for every barony. So it's easy to visually spot your own barony when paging through the landscapes. http://dos.cyningstan.org.uk/downloads/64/the-anarchic-kingdom

A Team Droid level is made up of a number of different cells, some helpful, some not. The two most basic elements are floors and walls. All droids can travel smoothly over floors. But nothing can pass through (or over) a wall. http://dos.cyningstan.org.uk/downloads/129/team-droid

Turntables, well they turn. If your robot stands on one, it'll turn 90° in the indicated direction. Occasionally this is helpful, but usually it's confusing - especially when you're trying to plan the robot's steps ahead of time. http://dos.cyningstan.org.uk/downloads/129/team-droid
