Microsoft, OpenAI sued for $3B after allegedly trampling privacy with ChatGPT https://www.theregister.com/2023/06/28/microsoft_openai_sued_privacy/ This is the third or fourth time they have faced lawsuits regarding privacy or copyright concerns. I wonder how many more lawsuits they will face?

While not dealing with ML directly, the US 2nd Cir. (NYC area) found in favor of #Google in determining that book scanning was transformative, and set the bar for economic impact to copyright holders very high.
It'll be interesting to see how other Circuits rule and if the #privacy / ECPA angle is more compelling than #copyright.
I really hope everyone hops over and they lose their market share. These companies need to learn they cant extract from community and then try and build proprietary walls

Has anyone else noticed on GitHub that we can't even browse source code now without running their JavaScript? Well, I can't in a FireFox-based browser with privacy plugins anyway. This is just another step down the path to the further enshittification of GH by its small, soft overlords.
