It’s been so long since I did anything with authenticated users, curious about “modern” patterns and standards.

Specifically, an authenticated user wants to do something. What patterns and standards are you using for permissions?

I’m seeing middleware mentions. But, curious what else is out there. Not looking for “use Framework X” and should be testable. Doesn’t need to be web-specific as I’m just looking for patterns and standards.

News ≠ Blog and Blog ≠ News

On many sites, I notice that "News" is used as the anchor text for links leading to main blog page. This is misleading. The anchor text for blogs should be "Blog", not "News".

An instance of a popular CMS is used for a website. While analyzing I'm coming across a a table in it's MySQL database where a column called "deleted" is defined as such:

deleted` tinyint(4) NOT NULL DEFAULT 0 COMMENT 'A boolean indicating whether this data item has been deleted‘

🤦‍♂️

There should be a license allowing allowed to write software used by someone else. Like with drivers licenses it needs a points system for violations and license revocation.

Many developers use CSS frameworks to reduce boilerplate, increase quality & drive consistency. Good in theory - not always in practice.

Instead of using a #CSSframework, you should write your own custom #CSS. This is the best option!

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for examples of what I'd refer to as "progressive tutorials". Coding or other tech-related tutorials that introduce progressive ideas and themes, without being overtly political.

Hey web developers, this may seem like a dumb question, but when I was a young warthog you would link to a directory (just a simple "a href"), and if that directory had an index.html page it would assume that's what you wanted. Now I'm just getting one of those "Index of" pages (with that index.html page visible!) is it because it's running locally instead of a proper web server? Has this just overall changed and I didn't know?

I think it'd be a neat idea to start a #blog, and I'm brainstorming how to do it.

Not gonna use #WordPress. #Jekyll sounds promising. There's an alternative called #Pelican that, as the creator of the the Pelicanizer, would be fitting for my blog.

Does anyone else have suggestions?

After a bit of playing with , I feel like it's really, well, API-oriented. You can have templating of course, but it's just a liiiittle clumsier than returning JSON (e. g., you need to manually inject the request into it).

So I'm not entirely sure if I should stick to my original plan of mostly rendering HTML and using , or if I should go with the framework flow and make a app. Probably the latter TBH.

I scrapped 2 months worth of work on a headless front end application for Siren, and went server-side with PHP. In doing so, I literally built the entire interface in 3 days.

Why are we still so stuck on headless?
