As much as I dislike #Meta / #Facebook, there is no denying that their Meta Quest 3 VR headset is an amazing piece of technology, and very much a 21st century device. Like smartphones, I have this fantasy of setting one up with lots of local apps, time traveling to the early 1950s, and dropping one on a workbench at Bell Labs. Probably would seriously screw up the timeline though.
An artist-run, anti-AI social platform called Cara has grown from 40,000 to 650,000 users in just a week, as artists leave Instagram in their thousands to protest against Meta’s AI policies.
Artists aren’t happy that the social media giant is using public posts on its platforms to train its generative AI systems, with no way to opt out for U.S. users. Meta’s loss is Cara’s gain, but such a jump in users hasn’t come without its challenges. @TechCrunch has more.

Już 26 czerwca wchodzą w życie nowe zasady polityki prywatności, które pozwolą właścicielom Facebook’a wykorzystać lata prywatnych postów, zdjęć czy innych danych zbieranych od użytkowników. Według NOYB Meta bezprawnie wykorzysta dane do trenowania swojej technologii AI.
Meta broni się tłumacząc, że korzysta z dostępnych publicznie danych oraz informacji zamieszczonych przez użytkowników w usługach takich jak Instagram czy Facebook.
Jeżeli państwa członkowskie nie zdążą wstrzymać wejścia w życie nowych zasad przed 26.06, cofnięcie danych nie będzie już możliwe.

Eine technische Analyse der Opt-out-Links ergab außerdem, dass Meta eine Anmeldung verlangt, um eine ansonsten öffentliche Seite einzusehen. Insgesamt verlangt Meta dadurch von etwa 400 Millionen europäische Nutzer:innen einen Widerspruch, anstatt sie um Einwilligung zu bitten.
