For supporters of a #hydrogen#transport economy, its all looking a bit like the Betamax/VHS choice in the 1980s (for this of you old enough to recall the river video system);
'Their biggest challenge in the coming months will be attracting foreign partners to the #Ukrainian weapons #industry, and securing the licenses needed to build and repair Western arms. “Our model used to be: Give it to us. Now our model is going to be: Let’s make it together.” ... Zelensky needed the country’s arms #manufacturers to start cranking out #weapons as fast as possible, in part to hedge against the risk of a decline in supplies from the West.'
MakeUK's most recent survey of #manufacturers reveals a majority think things will get better for them in 2024.
So the Q. is: is this because of the #Tories (occasional) pro-business #tax policies & Sunak's 'steady hand'... or because they can see an #election coming & the end of over a decade of Tory miss-rule?
The right press will emphasise the former, while many might suspect the latter, as businesses know as well as anyone the damage the Tories have wrought on the UK's economic prospects!
windows just deprecated windows mixed reality. thousands of headsets are going to become bricked. open source drivers (monado) do not fully support WMR. they are still selling WMR headsets like the Reverb G2. there is no refund policy. the only way to use WMR is to never upgrade your windows install. fuck microsoft.
ACR identifies what's displayed on your television, including content served through a cable TV box, streaming service, or game console, by continuously grabbing... https://jwz.org/b/ykHC
The "Does factory reset really clear everything these days?" thing is one I've wondered about.
I also presume that the TV #manufacturers, who are starting to earn more #money from #surveilling users' watching habits and selling the data to the ad giants than they do from #selling the #hardware, will be putting in LTE/5G modems that aren't exposed to the user, so the sets have network connections without relying on the user to provide it.
With the prospect (already) of a pre-Christmas slow down in consumption (and potential #recession in the new year), #manufacturers are now facing a #supplychain crisis....
not only is the #SuezCanal already at risk due to attacks on shipping approaching the canal ('encouraging' some shippers to take longer, more expensive & slower routes), now the #panamacanal has been hit be a drought that is severely constraining its capacity.
There's going to be a lot more friction in global supply chains
The overwhelming majority of the resources approved as security assistance for #Ukraine has... gone directly to #American#manufacturers, supporting American #jobs, expanding the American industrial base, and producing new weapons for America’s military — Sen Mitch McConnell #quote#quotes#SupportUkraine
Certainly #Tesla has made massive inroads into the high-end market (& has plans for the lower-cost range) as have other brands, but overall China's lead currently looks to continue for some time.
If you wanted a demonstration of how long-term industrial strategy & policy focus work, this would be it!
There is no argument too pathetic for the #NRA. Enhanced #backgroundchecks are an attack on law abiding citizens? Really? If they're law abiding, they'll pass the background check, just as they do now. What the NRA wants is a completely open system with no #regulations or #restrictions. They want this because it maximizes #gun purchases, and at the end of the day, the NRA is primarily a #lobbying group for the gun #manufacturers. It's all about maximizing #profits.
#linux will replace #windows in the future. As the usage gets easier, and #hardware#manufacturers ship linux, the #freedomofchoice will convince people to use it. #Microsoft relies too much on their monopol, which will eventually lead to their undergoing. I can't tell how long it will take, but it will happen. #changemymind.
The #IPPR rightly follows Marianna Mazzucato & suggests that UK Govt. needs to invest directly in #greentehcnology;
as I've said before this make perfect sense; not only would it help accelerate the #greentransition, it would also pump-prime the UK's current lamentable #investment environment for #manufacturers...
Its a policy that the Labour Party should get behind.... its certainly a better use of #taxpayers money than subsidising #fossilfules (see earlier post)
Why "intake underneath, exhaust at the top" never became the standard among mainstream #hardware#manufacturers, after all these years, eludes me. #lifehacking
