How do I properly resize my LVM partitions when it is inside LUKS?

Do I have to boot in a USB to do it or can it be done while the crypt is open/being used? I need to resize my root partition.

At least today, I managed to learn a lot. Prior to today, I never had a need to use or logical volume management. So today, I had to learn how to do a Linux install with LVM. Let's just say I am an LVM convert now. I had no idea just how powerful it really is.

Does anyone who's proficient with and on know how possibly to rescue data? 🥺

The underlying system is @ubuntu but I don't think that it's specific to that.

Please share for a higher chance of getting help. 🙏🏻

So I'm rebuilding my main home dev system. I want everything except /𝚋𝚘𝚘𝚝 and 𝚜𝚠𝚊𝚙 to be encrypted and mirrored. I'm not really interested in getting into the mix; I don't see any added value. So what's the best path? Boot from a dist and set up RAID1 sets, and then install onto them? Or what?

I've typically used , but keeping current/upgrading has always been iffy or a pain. Maybe I should use ? users scared ne off years ago..

Turns out, #LVM #RAID-1 with #dmintegrity over two separate physical disks and then putting a #dmcrypt device on top of the RAID is really slow. As in, it's estimating to take a week to do the initial sync on the two 12TB WD Red drives on SATA. (For comparison, zeroing out one of these disks should take 8 hours or something.)

Apparently it's a somewhat-known problem with dm-integrity, related to its journal.

How would you build something bitrot-safe & encrypted with that hardware? #Debian 12.

😞 dead computer woes ( 🤞 it's just the PSU ) but I need read only access to some files sooner than I can get it running again and they're on LVM stripes. What's this vgimport business, if I just want a readonly mount from my laptop?

Am I the only person who does not see the benefit of using LVM on a Virtual Machine?

It makes somewhat sense on a physical machine, but not on a VM in my world.

lave,

@gnulinux richtet mir mustergültig 2 mit ein. Sogar ohne das Zwischendeck . Kenn sonst keine Distribution, die das schafft. Aber möglich ist es offenbar.

I can't decide...

Root on - data integrity, snapshots, send/recv, more complex setup, lower performance

Root on - more straight forward, higher performance

... thoughts?

Okay, I’ve tried the whole Root on dance, and it’s not making me happy. “Disable or build your own Secure Boot trust chain” is just … too cumbersome. And since I don’t need fancy ZFS-only features anyway, let’s see whether I can instead build something that better suits my needs based on just ’s RAID options (including --raidintegrity) and .
