Hey European & American friends who use tools and do building, repairs, DIY – are Robertson screws common in your area?
Are Robertson screwdrivers common in European toolboxes?
In Canada I suspect that 99% of people who have tools would have Robertson screwdrivers in their toolbox. At least the red & green (#2, #1) sizes. The more intrepid will have the yellow and black (#0, #3) sizes too.
I want to get into hand tool woodworking, because I suck at doing things by hand and really want to get better at it.
So here is day 1!
So after gathering some tools I made a simple lap joint for practice, and there were quite a few challenges I had.
Marking proved more difficult than anticipated, as the boards were neither perfectly flat or square. While this board was sold as 4 sides planed, the surface had quite a bit of tearout and roughness. I should have probably jointed it myself but I did not feel comfortable enough with a plane to not make even more of a mess.
Cutting knife walls is more tricky than I thought, I managed to chip chunks out of the other side, I guess my stop cut was not deep enough? also my chisel probably isn't as sharp as it could be
-My saw cut wandered a bit, and I did not really know how to clean up the joint with the chisel, so one of the boards was slightly twisted. I fixed it by sanding it flush but next time I gotta be more careful. #woodworking#beginnerWoodworking#handTool#handToolWoodworking#joinery
If you are getting someone in to do some work for you check out their credentials, see if they have photos of their work and just be a bit more weary before parting with your cash as you may end up with this and your building inspector will not like you.
