>Never good enough. Never strong enough. Never smart enough. Never clever enough. Never fast enough… You name it, I’ve heard it be used against me. And I can assure you, words to matter.…
Ugh, the #WordPress mobile app seems to have really gotten worse. I've never had problems with adding alt text to my media after an upload. Now I find it never saves my alt text that I spend time on writing only to find that my posts have images with no alt text. With everything that keeps breaking all of the time with WordPress it's starting to really wear on me. I already have to fix my vehicles, my home, the things my kids break. I don't feel like adding my website on top of it all. 🤬
@jameskoole one big problem for me is that I maintain 2 #WordPress plugins, I do WordPress development & support in my day job, and I've been pretty active in the community for years. I'm just getting tired of things that worked suddenly breaking somehow in the name of progress. They split the WordPress app up into 2 things with #JetPack for really no good reason IMO. They took on the #ActivityPub plugin, which is great, but #JetPack now screws up my posts. I'm just getting tired of it.
I've used #Akismet on my #WordPress blog to block spam since its early days. The folks over at #Automattic have just informed me that I'm in violation of their license terms because the Google ads I have on it make it "commercial" so I can't use their free license.
I write on my blog for fun, and most years the ads bring in less than the cost of an Akismet license.
This is stupid and short-sighted on Automattic's part. I would have paid a reasonable price; this ain't it. Bye, Akismet.
Also, I've been waiting a month and a half for #Automattic to fix a problem with the social sharing functionality in their #Jetpack#WordPress plugin which is preventing me from linking my social accounts to my blog. In that time I've been given zero useful information and a great deal of outright wrong information by their support staff (read the ticket, it's a whopper). This does not put me in a position to be well-disposed toward giving Automattic money.
🇬🇧 I started an experiment with a plugin for #Wordpress called #IndependentAnalytics and after just one day I can say that not only is it better for readers' privacy it is not as blocked by #AdBlock as #Jetpack (shows higher numbers).
The #Techdirt story revealed something I'd missed in the blizzard of #DeathOfTwitter stories- that Twitter are now charging for automatic updates of #WordPress sites via #Jetpack. I've had a number of WP sites linked to #Twitter, including my still current personal site, but I left Twitter when Musk first announced he wanted to buy it. Unfortunately you have to pay WP more to automatically link your posts to #Mastodon, so I'm still copying and pasting my posts from https://peterwnimmo.co.uk/

Heftig! Das Jetpack Social Plugin (Wordpress) kickt die Twitter-Autoteilen Funktion nachdem keine Vereinbarung zustande gekommen ist. Hüstel. Tumblr, Facebook und LinkedIn sind nicht betroffen. Und:
[..] “In the near future, we are adding the ability to auto-share to Instagram and Mastodon.” [..]
@kevin@fediversenews Agree, though will only become big if / when WordPress replaces this Twitter sharing feature with one that does so to decentralised networks (not saying just Mastodon).
That would then mark a shift in how / where a large volume of web traffic gets distributed. #wordpress#mastodon#jetpack
… wherein I write about how Twitter’s decision to impose huge prices on API access has caused Automattic to discontinue auto-sharing from their hosted #WordPress .com site and also through the #Jetpack plugin used by people (like me) who host their own WP sites.
The good news is that Automattic says they’ll soon enable auto-sharing to #Mastodon , which will be a great help!
WordPress.com: Why #Twitter Auto-Sharing Is Coming to an End
For WordPress.com and #Jetpack users, Twitter will no longer be part of Jetpack Social. However, we’re adding #Instagram and #Mastodon very soon. In the meantime, auto-sharing to Tumblr, #Facebook, and #LinkedIn still works as expected, and you can continue sharing your blog post links on Twitter manually through their app or desktop site.
Automattic’s #Jetpack plugin drops auto-sharing of your #WordPress posts to Twitter because of Twitter’s changes to their API and pricing.
> We have attempted to work with Twitter in good faith to negotiate new terms..
.. but.. no!
Good to see that #Mastodon support will be coming soon:
