The data is unlikely to affect the #FederalReserve’s decision next week on #InterestRates, when most economists expect policymakers to leave rates unchanged at their currently high level. #Fed ofcls have noted they are most focused on progress in suppressing inflation#.
hmmmm.... I know things are tough in hospitality, but when trading standards find 70% of test drinks purchases are short measures, a new area of shrinkflation has surely been found.
Of course, we could argue this is a useful (organic) public health action which massages down the consumption of alcohol, but I'm guessing that's not what's actually going on.
As I walk over a footbridge passing over a small coastal river my gaze falls on a scene of light mist hovering over a landscape of dry, golden marsh grass.... Read the rest of the story regarding this beautiful print at: https://pixels.com/featured/the-dunes-at-ogunquit-scott-loring-davis.html
The surface of a lake, gently kissed by the breeze, is so peaceful. May the artwork bring you to such a lake, where there is quiet, and sunlight, and and serenity.
Times are tough for the #hospitality & #leisure sectors... But, Ten-pin Bowling has actually seen revenues (& footfall) rise in the last couple of years.
While it is a classic case of a cheap(isn) family treat (when times are hard), its also a case of benefitting from sunk-costs.
Once built, blowing alleys' marginal/variable costs are low & so operators have been using that surplus to cross-subsidise their #food offer, thus resisting #Inflation.
Hotel employees should think twice about emails from alleged guests. A pervasive #SocialEngineering campaign is targeting hotels worldwide with password-stealing malware that begins with service complaints or requests for information over email, followed by links to malicious payloads.
The 'complaint'-style messages include accusations of violent incidents or bigoted behavior by hotel staff, as well as claims of lost or stolen items.
'Requests for information' messages involve inquiries about severe allergies, hotel support for business meetings, or accessibility.
Once the hotel responds, the threat actor sends what they came to be supporting documentation — but instead, it's a #malware payload wrapped in a password-protected archive file. The links point to documents on public cloud storage services, which contain a password (usually numeric) that the recipient is prompted to use to open the Zip or Rar archive at the other end of the download link.
While #hospitality staff email security training is essential to stave off these attacks, additional layers of protection mitigate the risk of human error. Sophos #endpoint security products are specifically designed to detect the malware identified in these cases and block attempts to exfiltrate credentials. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3S8tj4Q
ZINE REVIEW: Service Please! by Burum Collective – “We’re used to pubs being written about by consumers and commentators – what if hospitality workers had a voice, without a commercial filter?”
But please tell me.... Is the #hospitality industry here still in deep recovery? Worse than other places? Im only pointing out that things have been slow. That was the norm for us in #Vancouver two years ago. Our whole group found it surprising.
#Introduction. This profile is all about growing climate-friendly food. Agriculture is currently making climate change worse, but it has the potential to not only reduce emissions, but actually help reverse global warming. We would need to grow a lot more food on trees and other perennial plants. My background is in the climate justice movement. Around 7-8 years ago I started on a journey to become a gardener and discover the perennial crops that could shift food production into sequestering carbon instead of releasing it. I began making more plants than I could use myself and started a plant nursery called Rod & Lund, with my business partner and mother Maria, specializing in perennial crops (rodoglund.dk). Over the years, I've found that many perennial crops are surprisingly easy to grow, but we still don't know how to cook with them. Thus, the theme of #cookingperennials became central to my work. Recently, I took a job as gardener and consultant of all things plant-related at Copenhagen Hospitality College, the biggest culinary school in Northern Europe. The next generation of chefs will be much more plant-forward and there's every reason to believe some of them will pick up the theme and make food from perennial crops their mission too. This is my hope. On the side, a hobby orchard project for processing fruit into alcohol, jam, pekmez etc. is in the making. I also have a small project going on in the most violent neighborhood of the country, trying to beautify a little patch of soil that is literally made of building waste, containing glass shards, bottle caps and almost zero organic matter, with the local dealers hiding drugs in my pots and addicts sometimes sleeping on my cold frames. But with lots of flowers and more to come. This account will be all about what I discover during my work. As an avid mushroom hunter, you can expect the occasional picture of fungi too.

#Surveillance#Retail#DataProtection#Hospitality: "This case study explores, examines and documents how software used by retailers, restaurants and hotels processes personal data on employees in order to track behavior, monitor performance, direct work and automate task allocation. First, it gives an overview of software systems in retail and hospitality, specifically addressing functionality for managing and monitoring workers and the subsequent effects this has on them, based on a brief review of field reports, survey-based studies and media articles, with a focus on Europe. Second, the case study investigates retail and hospitality systems offered by the enterprise software vendor Oracle, based on a detailed analysis of software documentation and other corporate sources. Oracle, a major vendor with a significant customer base in Europe, was selected as an illustrative example of wider practices. The examination documents a wide range of mechanisms that help employers to structure, direct, monitor and control work:"

Today is the 19th anniversary of my start date at the Palmer House Hilton in #Chicago, Illinois, USA. If you were a guest at the Palmer House between June of 2004 and August 2006, it's entirely possible that I checked you in for your stay.
If that's the case, hello again! I apologize if your room was impossibly small. I promise it wasn't personal. The hotel is old.
