Redwall Cavern

We came across Redwall Cavern on our second day down the Colorado River. This is a huge cavern that had been carved out thousands of years ago by the erosive power of the Colorado River.
When John Wesley Powell discovered this cavern he estimated that it could hold 50,000 people. I would guess maybe half that number but still a very large cavern. Marble Canyon II

Marble Canyon is just one of many canyons that make up the Grand Canyon. It starts at Lees Ferry and continues to the Little Colorado River.
The Colorado River cuts through the center and the water runs swiftly. The limestone colors vary from pink, black, gray, and purple. At this point we are a couple of thousand feet below the South Rim of the canyon.

Marble Canyon III
Day 2 and we're ready for the river. It seems like everyday we start out just above some rapid. Not all of them are big ones just large enough to get everyone wet to start the day.
Here we are inside Marble Canyon and in the distance you can see the water starting to churn. Beyond that are the walls of the Grand Canyon. See the full image here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/marble-canyon-iii-bill-gallagher.html?newartwork=true

North Canyon Pool

Roughly 20 miles south of Lees Ferry on the Colorado River is a sub canyon known as North Canyon where we camped on night 1. In the morning we hiked as far back in the canyon as possible without any climbing gear.
This pool filled with cold water along with the steep slippery slope on the other side halted our progress. Colorado River and the Grand Canyon
I captured this image 2 days into my trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. We are roughly 6,000 feet below the North Rim and roughly 50 miles into our trip.
We are getting accustomed to being consistantly wet and we haven't even hit any of the larger rapids. See the full image here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/colorado-river-and-the-grand-canyon-bill-gallagher.html?newartwork=true

Puebloan Graineries II

Day 3 on the river started with a hike to some ancient Puebloan granery ruins high above the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. It wasn't a bad hike but things got very narrow and steep as we got closer to the grainery.
The lengths these early inhabitants of the canyon went through just to survive. See the full image here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/puebloan-graineries-ii-bill-gallagher.html

Little Colorado River II
One of my biggest suprises on my trip through the Grand Canyon was when we came across the Little Colorado River. The crystal clear turquoise waters of the Little Colorado River was just stunning to say the least.
The water cascaded down over ledges and rocks as the turquoise water makes it's way downstream. There is nothing unusual or strange about the desire to be free, living independently of onerous rules, regulations, taxes, fees, conscription, and coercion.

It is only the people who profit by our subservience who extol the virtues of obedience to authority.

Deer Creek Falls

The Deer Creek is a wonderful oasis in the middle of the Grand Canyon.
Deer Creek Falls seems to came right out of the rocks For all purposes it might as well.
This waterfall stands 180 feet tall. The source of the waterfall, Deer Creek can be hiked further up into the canyon. #DeerCreekFalls #BillGallagherPhotography #BuyIntoArt #AYearForArt #Waterfall #DeerCreek #GrandCanyonNationalPark #Desert #Oasis #Red #Cliff #Rocks #Nature #Wilderness #GrandCanyon

This was captured on the morning of day 6 on our journey down the Colorado River through the grand Canyon. The walls of the canyon still have thier grip on us. The river is still flowing strong and we have a couple of large rapids to ride.

Deep In The Grand Canyon
We start day 6 near the 140 mile marker with 100 miles or more to go. We are deep in the canyon. Bothe rims are roughly 3,000 feet overhead but I don't recall seeing the rim now for a couple of days deep in the canyon.
The walls that surround us are narrow and tall giving us a limited view but the view we have is amazing. See the full image here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/deep-in-the-grand-canyon-bill-gallagher.html

One of my more enjoyable stops on our trip through the Grand Canyon was the stop at Havasu Creek. Such a beautiful side canyon. The walls of this canyon are narrow, tall and steep. This made the hike a bit of a challenge in sandles but doable,
The water here is almost the same turqouise blue as The Little Colorado River but with shades of deep green as well. See the full image here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/havasu-creek-bill-gallagher.html

Diamond Peak - Colorado River

Diamond Peak in the Grand Canyon is a beautiful peak near mile 222 on the Colrado River.
The significance of this peak, I was told, is that the top of this peak is the same elevation as we were at Lees Ferry 8 days earlier. It has been a very busy week with #Volunteer work days, and hikes, complicated with trying to help respond to the creationist crap science that was used to attack our book on the #GrandCanyon (2016). That was, at times, infuriating, so I needed those hikes to let off some steam (and scream from time to time).

Multiple #Bird sightings, but I liked this view of the original road that lead from #Tulsa to #Owasso. It is now one of our trails for bikes, running ... The gate in the distance is our northern boundary. #Wetlands to the right, and an incised stream to the left. The deer is crossing toward the wetlands. This is a #200mm #HyperFocal shot.
