Seeing the northern lights with my own eyes was an amazing experience this weekend! I wrote up a blog post about it and assembled a new video. Check it out!
New video time as I test out my own endurance versus the GoPro Hero 12 Black's water resistance... on the Great Barrier Reef. With predictable results...
One last bit of eclipse content! As totality was nearing, I set my GoPro up on a tripod to capture the event. It's neat to see totality approaching and leaving in a wave.

Was really fun finally getting this, had a failed one the night previous, so I'm thinking this is pretty decent given the area.
Really look forward to trying this out in the mountains, or the coast sometime 😊
Throwing it back to my visit to Oslob in The Philiippines! This place was crazy with huge crowds and a long wait, but wow was it worth it. When it was our turn, we boarded a long boat and they paddled us out to take our place in the long line. I hopped over the side and in 3 seconds was nose to nose with a whale shark! SO FUN!
My view from the Helm this morning. I was hoping to set up a #GoPro with hyperlapse on one of the bow rails but I could not maintain a connection to control it from inside. I finally just set one up in front of me so I can more easily monitor it. It should be an interesting little video, if it works. I still can't believe I built a successful #YouTube channel with #helicopter videos relying on these freaking cameras.
So this was kinda fun, especially for just goofing around..
Had the #GoPro Hero 12 for a lil while now, done several timelapse with it, but never got around to playing with it's 'star trails' mode until last night.
Wasn't really expecting much, as our view to the north is heavily light-polluted.
But damn, it sure did work! The video clip that came from it looks trippy too. I'm hoping the clips might get easier to post soon here.
But yeah, I like it. Will try to find some better locations for a more serious effort soon!
#GoPro released new software recently for editing on a laptop/desktop, their software still sucks rocks. Does not display camera GPS or camera highlights. WTF is the point of these hardware features if the software loses support for them?
Ich habe eine #GoPro Hero 3+ von 2013 und eine Black 7 von 2018. Eigentlich wäre ich demnach, bliebe man beim 5-Jahres-Zyklus, bei der Black 12 wieder "dran". Nur: Warum? 4k60 ist halt die Auflösung, die man erreichen will, mehr ist einfach unnötig…
Quand je suis parti en Guadeloupe je ne savais pas à quoi m’attendre. Je ne pensais pas que ça allait devenir un coup de cœur. Les îles antillaises étaient vraiment bas dans ma liste. Mon environnement de prédilection aurait été plus froid, voir glacial.
Je ne connaissais rien de la culture de la Guadeloupe, de son histoire, de sa faune ou de sa flore. Bref, je suis arrivé ici dans un environnement totalement inconnu. Après avoir malgré tout vérifié qu’il n’y avait pas de serpents dangereux dont ma phobie est un véritable frein à mon besoin d’explorer 😅
4 mois plus tard je peux assurer que jamais un environnement n’avait autant mis mes sens en état d’éveil. Sa grande richesse culturelle, humaine et naturelle, sa diversité, son climat, sa géologie, sa nourriture... cet archipel est un trésor. Et je ne l’aurais jamais soupçonné !
Je réalise également, tristement, que la métropole française ne me comble pas et ne m’a jamais comblé. Notre nature, nous avons fini de la dévaster. De la souiller. Au profit de maisons où d’appartements avec vue sur la mer ou proches du ski. De lignes électriques. Des villes. De l’agriculture. Je sentais ne pas pouvoir m’épanouir là bas. J’en ai maintenant la confirmation.
Je ne sais pas si la Guadeloupe est l’endroit où je voudrai vivre, mais c’est là où je peux respirer.

Other than the nearly full moon, it was a perfect night for astrophotography. You get to ride along with my telescope as it photographs the night sky. Flame and Horsehead were the primary target, but they don't come up until 9:30pm. This session was a bit of a mess as Crescent disappeared behind the trees earlier than I expected, so I had to scramble to find another target to fill the time. I'll definitely do more of these!

I need #help with the #battery life of my #GoPro Hero 7. I got it for free 3 years ago, brand new, but I haven't had the chance to use it until now. After ~10 minutes of very light #video usage, the battery level went from 100% to 70%. It then dropped to 66% overnight with the camera off. All wireless connections are off, wake on voice too. I'll keep an eye after more battery cycles (this was the first charge) but I wanted to check if others have had the same issue. What am I missing? Thanks!
