With a broad range of expertise across our branches, Fusion's strength lies in combining our diverse backgrounds. ❤️
We have released sneak peaks on our socials about some of the presentation topics as listed below.
Andrea: Cellular Agriculture 🧫🌱
Owen: How Bad Software Threatens Our Society ⚙️💻
Sundance: Transport Cycling and Social Harms of Helmet Laws 🚴♂️
Angus: Cannabis Driving Law Reform 🚗🌿
Mark: Challenges for the Energy Transition 🔌
Miles: Fusion is a Metamodern Political Movement 🚀
Tyrone: Argument for Lifting the Nuclear Energy Ban ⚛️
"Several Fusion Industry Association member companies have a 'very detailed and long list of things and learnings that they’d like to get from ITER,' but processes to transfer this knowledge are lacking, [FIA CEO Andrew] Holland said."
I miss Bob Berg. What an amazing saxophonist. He was only 51 when he passed away in 2002.
If you dig Berg, than carry the torch. If you are new to Berg, have a taste.
"Snakes" - Bob Berg - This recording is from the album: Remembering Bob Berg 2005
The original album "Short Stories" has Will Lee, Peter Erskine, Mike Stern, Don Grolnick, and the late David Sanborn (track 4), joining Berg. https://youtu.be/8DOh352DetI?feature=shared #jazz#fusion
Iter & West: Nuclear Fusion Gaining Momentum at Cadarache
Nuclear fusion is advancing rapidly, including within France. On one hand, the CEA’s WEST reactor has completed its experimental campaign by setting a new record. On the other hand, the final poloidal field coil for ITER has been delivered.
Amused to see our local Indian restaurant sells pan fried Chinese noodles. (India is Asia, but Indian food is not Chinese food, nor vice versa). #fusion
No mention of fusion energy at least at the top level of in BNEF's New Energy Outlook 2024 report, which is no surprise given its unproven abilities. But at Commonwealth Fusion Systems, we're working hard to carve out a big wedge alongside solar and wind for zero-carbon electricity. Our first machine is under construction, and we want to put power on the grid in the early 2030s. https://about.bnef.com/new-energy-outlook/
If you're good with social media and are psyched by the prospect of using zero-carbon fusion energy to fight climate change, good news — we're hiring someone to work with me and others at Commonwealth Fusion Systems. We're a startup, but we're not vaporware: our factory is cranking out superconducting magnets and our first tokamak is under construction. HMU if you're curious, but here's the job post.
Using AI to oversee dynamic fusion machines is a hot area of research. It doesn't mean generative AI like ChatGPT. It's old-school AI, where you train a machine to recognize patterns in complex real-world data then let it make decisions.
Due to my new position, I am interacting a lot with Ukrainian #fusion scientists. After today's meeting, I was heartbroken and in awe of the heroism of the Ukrainian scientists who are repairing their reactor damaged by Russian aggression. This was in one of the slides.
Batteries are growing on the grid to handle evening power use surges when solar peters out. California just hit 7GW out of 10GW capacity. Our house is battery powered from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will be part of a virtual power plant soon.
Hard to express just how impressed I am with the breadth and depth of the CFS operations, manufacturing, and planning that I glimpsed of here at the #CFSShowtime all-hands. Mind 70% expanded, mind 30% blown. #fusion#fusionenergy#power#EnergyTransition
Bob Mumgaard, CEO of Commonwealth Fusion Systems: It took a 700-page pitch deck and year of due diligence to win over investors, because of course there are no fusion power plants yet.
"You need to get people to believe," Mumgaard said today. "If you don't have the actual thing, the next best thing you do is you can do the hard work of pulling out the science, pulling out the advisors, pulling out the due diligence — pulling the whole thing together and painting that picture." #energy#fusion
