There are many popular Gillian Welch songs to choose from, but I love this one from the "Lost Songs"---so quiet and winsome, closer to classic American country music than mainstream folk. #countrymusic#folkmusic#musicwomenwednesday
It's Monday and I keep forgetting so this time I won't! It's time for #MoodMusicMonday!
Today's mood, in theme with the ides of March is "ominous."
Choose a song (or songs) that you think fits the mood in any way (reminds you of it, puts you in the mood, you listen to to get out of the mood, etc, whatever you want).
Remember to include the mood and hashtag in your reply so others can see it and participate!
Happy #NewMusic Friday! My new retro country autobiographical ballad "Son, Tell Jesus You're Straight (The Ballad of a Kid Named Ren)" is now available!
It's a song about my dad's efforts to straighten my bi-ass out over the years. Hope you enjoy!
Welp, my new song, “Son, Tell Jesus You're Straight (The Ballad Of A Kid Named Ren)” is out Friday, y’all! It’s a little retro country ballad about my relationship with my dad and his attempts to straighten me over the years.
Once you get a taste you'll lick the spoon,
learn every word to The Dance, and Neon Moon.
and next thing you know you''ll hang a swing on a piece of land
start sayin' things like "Hell Naw" and "Hot Damn!"
Yeah, and if you dip your toe,
you'll get bit by the bug
and wanna wet a line.
And that's the kinda trend,
oh, that I can get behind!
Beyoncé wore a cowboy hat to the Grammys and fans predicted that she was working on a country album. Lo and behold, she's announced "Act II," which will be out on March 29 and is the second release of her "Renaissance" trilogy. @pitchfork has more details, plus videos for the first two songs — "Texas Hold 'Em" and "16 Carriages" — both of which have a distinct country feel.
There will be days
The sun won't shine
When it seems like
The whole world is against you
Don't be afraid
Life is unkind
You can let go of the pain
If you choose to
'Cause time slips away
Skies fall apart
Revealing to all
A universal heart
Glowing
Flowing
All around you
Well, the tip of my thumb has been whittled like wood
The way I'm abusin' the lighter
I'm a-self-medicatin', a-tokin' all day
And a-tryna fight fire with fire
I live by the pipe and I'll die by it too,
Least that's how it seems to me
I am hearing that on his deathbed Toby Keith received the light of Islam and unhesitatingly recited the Shahada. Even now he looks down on the Ummah from the gardens of Jannah. Truly there is no god but Allah, and Mohammad is his prophet!
Country singer Toby Keith, whose "Should've Been a Cowboy" was one of the most-played songs of the 90s, has died at 62 following a two year battle with stomach cancer. #TobyKeith#ShouldveBeenACowboy#CountryMusic#Music
‘[A]ll of the #music [Luke Combs] released before “Fast Car” had been classified, for chart purposes, as #country. That meant that when “Fast Car” won song of the year at the Country Music Association Awards last November, [Tracy] Chapman became the first #Black songwriter to win that prize. This felt less like a cause for celebration than a stark reminder of how few Black women get to be considered “country” artists…’
Pedal steel player Susan Alcorn: "Outside of country music, there's very little understanding of the pedal steel. Usually, I have to explain as people will say, 'Oh, I've never seen that before.' You know, that sort of thing."
