I took this photo early this morning with my phone using only the light of the tree. Maybe turning the room lights on would have been a good idea. This Christmas is the first Christmas in a long time that we've had a child in the house, our great-grandchild. Hence the new tree, last year I took a ceramic tree, set it on the table, and said ... done. As you might imagine, most of the gifts under the tree are for him. Hmmm ... it feels strange being a great-grandfather. That's the way the world turns.
“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!”
The Christmas tree survived the night! I was especially wondering if Pax would get to it, but she and the other 4 cats left it alone. Hopefully we can get it through the season still intact!
Every year, we hunt for the worst Christmas tree decoration in our local garden centre.

This year, we have seven to offer. On this message we have...
Some kind of bird, possibly an owl. It's made from twigs, a pine cone and some kind of grassy, mossy matter and bits of salt/ fake ice.
A plastic cheese. It may be brie, it may not. Under the bright lights of the camera, it has a slight mouldy hue. Not from the garden centre: this can be purchased from Sainsbury's.
an Elizabeth Tower/ Big Ben badly executed. Also, from Sainsbury's.
I got my 3rd Xmas tree constructed using a pedestal fan base, closet rod, wire, garland and Christmas lights. Do you notice the asshole tuxedo cat named Oreo sleeping on the bottom? I think a Nerf gun might be my next purchase...
Obligatory “the #ChristmasTree is up!”photo for #Christmas2023.
Now it’s time to park my backside on the sofa, and get stuck into a nice coffee and some tasty stroopwafels. ♥️ #Christmas
Half of our Christmas tree decoration are old wooden figurines my grandmother already decorated her trees with. She loved Christmas Eve. Who can blame her – it was her birthday. Good memories! But of course she used much more tinsel. 😉
Merry Christmas and happy holidays! I hope you've got a great time! 🎄
Here's my #ChristmasTree for y'all! At the base, one of the Auxiliary Telescopes at ESO's Paranal Observatory. Above it, the Magellanic Clouds, two small galaxies orbiting our own. The tree-topper is 47 Tucanae, a globular cluster containing millions of #stars.
Finished putting up the tree, tried a new thing this year to keep Henry from climbing in and batting the ornaments off (placed a doughnut-shaped cat tunnel around the base!). Will it work? Only time will tell…
P.S. - Diamond would like me to inform you that she is EXCEEDINGLY well-behaved, a proper lady in all respects, and would NEVER be caught climbing a silly Christmas tree. (Narrator: key word is “caught”)
#Gingerbread#cookies I received during Koliada celebration (Slavic Winter Solstice holiday). Had four of them, only #ChristmasTree and #cat remained when I took this photo.
I have a plan! I have put Eric's toy chicken and ball under the tree. He has no control over his tail, so he will knock the tree over and he'll get the blame for destroying it while I remain innocent. #CatChristmas#CatsOfMastodon#Cat#ChristmasTree
This is what a #ChristmasTree in the wild looks like underground. All of those roots are storing #carbon.
The Earth’s soils contain about 2,500 gigatons of carbon—that’s more than three times the amount of carbon in the atmosphere and four times the amount stored in all living plants and animals.
The world's soils are the best #CarbonSink we have.
