Was halfway watching #TheLegendofShenLi which I enjoyed, surprisingly. (I think of the first arc as Meet Yourself, #xianxia version 🤭.) I love our main couple's idyllic countryside life, the cooking scenes. It was a respite from their duties as bigwigs in the heavenly realm.
Most of all, I am liking the fact that we have a mature couple, acted by older actors in a genre dominated by mostly young actors.
I don't suppose anyone here reads Chinese lit enough to discuss tropes?
Currently reading an Ergen (I Shall Seal The Heavens), and the protag is this weird blend of greedy and uh, friendly exploitative? Basically leveraging friendships for gain. "Elder Brother you are truly a work of the gods, I applaud your ascension, in this way no one will ever pick on me again because we are such good friends" kinda thing.
The characters consistently do the same, and it's sort of played off as expected and positive.
Is this a negative trope? Is it positive friendships being fed through a localization wood chipper? Or is it a cultural difference where what I see as exploitative friendships really are meant to be seen as positive?
Like am I meant to earnestly like him as an honorable guy? Or is he meant to be more of a likeable racal?
Dropped a new excerpt from my free webnovel, Below the Heavens - JiangXi!
I decided to do a mood board just for fun!
Below the Heavens is a high fantasy web novel series featuring a quick witted protagonist and a world and magic system crafted from scratch, incorporating east Asian culture and influences.
This indie novel is available for free on Royal Road via the web browser (link in my bio) or their app! Also available on Scribblehub, and I have a Patreon as well where you can read ahead on a sizeable portion of content!

Last volume of Heaven Official's Blessing by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu is out today, and I both want to read it immediately and don't want to read it at all so it won't end. 😭
Cannot believe I actually watched 59 episodes of #LoveAndRedemption! I was so sure I'd bail halfway. Final verdict: 8.5/10 - I like it a lot, despite its many flaws.
I kept a "watch log", recording my thoughts as I watched it (blog post below). This was a #DigitalGarden entry in action, btw. Loving this method of #blogging! It is so fun I'll be doing this for Story of Kunning Palace or Wonderland of Love.
I'm now at episode 48 of #LoveAndRedemption ! Frankly I didn't think I'd last this long. I thought I would've bailed out from boredom or at least fast forward some episodes. I didn't, and actually watched every episode. Shocker!
I would watch at the end of the work day - about two episodes or so. It is something I'm looking forward to each day.
I was a major skeptic of this show. I didn't see how I could like it. But here I am!
Updated with my thoughts about episode 27-35 of #LoveAndRedemption . I think I can safely say that I'm a fangirl of this #XianXia. Logically, it shouldn't work for me, but strong acting of Cheng Yi, the male lead, and the supporting characters & good side plots go a long way to help me enjoy it.
I am at episode 33 of #LoveAndRedemption and I can safely I say that I like this drama a lot. I think it is down to yes, Cheng Yi's charisma and also the interesting side characters and side plots. Amazing tbh, because I usually hate them! It also helps that Xuanji's annoying childishness and cluelessness has faded by now.
This is a classic that everyone said I should watch - "Love & Redemption". Maybe it is the power of Cheng Yi, but I can't help liking it. Am at ep 4,and there's something relaxing about the show. I was actually worried I would dislike it due to the childlike female lead & not liking #xianxia. But am liking the interaction between Sifeng and Xuanji. So far. 🤞
Oh what the heck, I'm watching this live. Director, you better not slap me with a tragic ending.
Watching ep 1 & whooboy the CGI is rough. However, I like the costumes & sets which has a more realistic vibe and not the too-bright sheen of a lot of #xianxia dramas.
So happy Creation of the Gods is finally showing in #Malaysia but omg the cinemas are so far away from me. Why Subang people don't watch Chinese movies ke? 🤣
But oh ya lemme Check TGV for sure Subway Pyramid got 💃
