Does someone know if collects data on (Windows Subsystem for Linux) usage or is it a safe space in the system?

Reflection... 20 years ago Bill Riemers offered a WSL before #WSL was a thing; called #coLinux.

I maintained images for Fedora, CentOS and OpenSUSE (for mono):

https://github.com/gbraad-fedora/colinux-images

which were 'officially' available for use with coLinux:

http://colinux.org and https://sourceforge.net/projects/colinux/files/Images%202.6.x%20Fedora/

Automating the image generation taught me a lot about how Linux was structured and their dependencies.

Got to this as #Microsoft's #WSL does not solve the issue with kernel modules;

#coLinux did; and I repackaged the modules as an RPM for each release. WSL could even do this by mounting the modules path into the tree.

Trying to debug nixos build problems... turns out to be an issue with memory limit in WSL2. Sigh.

Good bye #WSL and hello #RemoteDevelopmentMachine

For quite a while now, I have relied on terminal into my Windows Subsystem for Linux on my main workstation, as my daily driver. While it works all right for most cases, there are certain compatibility issues that requires a "... in WSL" search term for documentations/issues.

Close to a month now I have been using a #Ubuntu #terminal only VM on my #homelab #Proxmox cluster. For ones who can roll this out, this seems the best approach.

Found my first issue with using a Dev Drive, and wanting to have access to it from WSL: apparently the way Dev Drives mount in Windows is not compatible with the WSL auto-mounting.

Why does this matter? Docker Desktop (in WSL 2 mode) can't mount a Dev Drive folder.

Do I dump WSL 2 mode for Docker? Or do I dump Dev Drive? Tough choice, but I suspect I dump the Dev Drive.

In WSL 2, /mnt/c/Dev gets an I/O error because "cannot read symbolic link".
Trying to mount C:\Dev on Docker in Windows (running in WSL 2 mode) claims it can't create /run/desktop/mnt/host/c/Dev because the file exists (but in reality, the error is that it can't read that folder from WSL).

I've been using cargo (#RustLang package manager) for [cough] yrs and it is very nice. But always on my Ubuntu laptop. #Linux

That laptop died so right now I'm using an old Windows 10 (not 11 as stated earlier) laptop with #WSL and I have cargo building in #Windows and Ubuntu 22 (under WSL) and it just works.

Cross platform #development used to be one of the hardest most frustrating things, but tools like #cargo and #Tauri have changed all that.

Development is less aggghhh!

Next #Android!

Forced to revert to an old Windows laptop while I await a delivery from god knows where, I've just installed #WSL which at first glance works brilliantly. (That's Ubuntu running on Windows 11 and using a Linux kernel rather than a compatibility layer on the Windows kernel.)

Now all that Microsoft have to do is include the option to remove Windows and the world will be much improved.

I've updated my ansible-dev-pc¹ repository to support the recently released Ubuntu 24.04 (hence my discussion on getting .NET to behave). This supports Desktop Ubuntu 22.04/24.04, Pop!_OS 22.04, and Ubuntu 22.04/24.04 in WSL 2.

I'm still waiting for Pop!_OS 24.04 to be released so I can verify it there as well.

Chelsea 'agree deal' for next manager with Lyon boss Sonia Bompastor to succeed Emma Hayes

https://www.football.london/womens-football/chelsea-agree-deal-next-manager-28974175

Will be very interesting to see how Chelsea transitions from Emma Hayes to Bompastor and if she can continue the success of the club.

I don't think this is a bad appointment, though. Can't think of who else would be more fitting.

Frida Maanum: 'No obvious cardiac causes' for Arsenal midfielder's collapse

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68734460

Was scary to see her pass out during the Conti Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea, however the good news is that it doesn't seem to be cardiac-related, meaning she'll probably be able to play again a lot sooner.

BBC and Sky to show WSL next season but no new deal over league’s long term future

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/04/04/bbc-sky-show-wsl-next-season-no-deal-long-term-future/

Since the WSL is splitting from The FA, they were hoping to secure a larger TV deal but that won't be in place for next season.

I wonder where all the games are going that usually appear on The FA Player. I assume that service won't be available in the 24-25 season.

Frida Maanum: Arsenal midfielder 'stable' after collapsing off ball during Conti Cup final win over Chelsea

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/32461/13105552/arsenals-frida-maanum-collapses-off-ball-during-conti-cup-final

Shocking scenes in the Conti Cup final after Maanum got stretchered off. Marred the occasion and the atmosphere around the tie was definitely dampened after that point.

Glad to hear that she is conscious and stable, however. Thoughts are with her for sure.

This was the only sensible outcome if the allegations were found to be true. There should never be an environment where relationships between players and managers should be tolerated, imo.

Mary Earps under real pressure for England spot as Hannah Hampton and Khiara Keating raise bar

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/03/25/mary-earps-england-spot-hannah-hampton-khiara-keating/

Keating's had a great season, but she's still young and occasionally error-prone.

Hampton, imo, is one of the most complete goalkeepers out there. Solid shot-stopper and comfortable with her feet/playing out from the back.

Earps has had a rather forgettable season at Utd.

Does WSL need VAR after Women’s Football Weekend see’s numerous controversial calls?

https://www.justarsenal.com/does-wsl-need-var-after-womens-football-weekend-sees-numerous-controversial-calls/363017

What the WSL needs is a better standard of officiating across the board. The league has yet to implement full-time, professional referees. Refs are still semi-pro and the gulf in quality/training is becoming more and more obvious.

Aston Villa Women: Carla Ward must rethink approach after what happened in 3-1 loss v Arsenal

Hard to disagree with the sentiment of this article.

I saw the game and it was frustrating to watch. Villa were just pinned into their own third for the entire second half attempting to play super defensive after going 1-0 up.

West Ham manager Rehanne Skinner furious with offside call in 2-0 defeat to Chelsea

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/13101231/west-ham-manager-rehanne-skinner-fumes-with-offside-call-in-2-0-wsl-defeat-to-chelsea-im-sick-of-it/

Think we can all agree it was a really bad call and West Ham are right to feel aggrieved.

That said, I also agree that VAR isn't the sole solution here. You didn't need VAR to see she was clearly onside. Quality of refereeing in the WSL needs to be worked on through proper investment and training in refs.
