Grr - taxes filed, but my payable has an exta $3.90 added on.

I remember seeing this last year, where it claimed I paid something late, while their own payment records showed I was many days early. To my complaints then I was told it would go away. :(

So do I bother to try and track it down and spend hours on the phone again, or do I just pay the $4 Bureaucratic Ineptitude Tax and be done with it?

Okay - it's crazy accounting time.

I just filed my tax return and paid the amount owing too, five days before the due date.

Tax office told me they assume I probably won't pay until oh, say… (wet finger in the wind) maybe May 6. They calculate an arrears interest charge for then and add it to my tab.

On phone they asked: "Oh you didn't pay that did you? It'll just go away when we settle the account."

They pre-charge a late fee before anything is late.

It's another day of tedious accounting-type work as we hurdle towards the tax deadline for Canada.

I've seen a cryptic thing on the gov site saying the filing deadline is June15 for households with self-employed members, yet it says payments are due April 30.

Confusing - we need to pay by Apr30, but filing is not due until June15? You'd have to work thru your return to figure out what you owe anyway, so what good is extra time if you had to do that work already.

Not clear if that's a mistake or what.

This is yet another thing that helps regular people thanks to the Biden Administration and Democrats.

In In 2022, the Congressional Democrats approved the Inflation Reduction Act, allocating more funds to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and mandating a study on direct filing.

In response, the IRS is developing and implementing a direct filing option this year!

The Direct File program is now available in 12 states. This service is perfect for those with simple tax situations, especially those using the standard deduction (about 90% of American taxpayers).
