“British and Irish governments play down Sinn Féin’s calls for united Ireland”

Or, Tweedledum, Tweedledee, and the soon-to-be-evicted tenant of Number 10 are shit-scared of Irish voters. Not just Sinn Féin.

Still, onwards to a 32 county Ireland it is. Star Trek predicted it would happen in 2024, so the feckers had better get a move on.

gets its 1st first minister in historic shift

After 2 full yrs w/o a functioning govt, Northern Ireland’s Parliament Bldgs opened their doors on Sat & lawmakers returned to work — one of their 1st acts was to name Sinn Féin’s as first minister.
O’Neill, 47, makes history as Northern ’s 1st leader, from a party that wants north & south to come together, someday, as a single country.

The political parties in the UK in preparation for the coming general election are as follows:

#Conservatives: Evil, but also incompetent;
#DUP: Like Conservatives, but also bonkers;
#LibDems: Like Conservatives, but also hopeless;
#Labour: Like Conservatives, but also useless;
#SinnFein: apparently competent and sensible but only in Ireland;
#SNP: Like Labour, but Scottish;
#Greens: Sensible and possibly competent, but we won't vote for them because we all think no one else will.

Sigh.

🚨Dangerously out of control🚨

#Braverman: "I do not believe these marches are merely a cry for help for #Gaza. They're an assertion of primacy by Islamists, of the kind we are more used to seeing in Northern #Ireland."

#Sunak failed to force the Met to ban a pro #Palestine ceasefire march, so his attack dog Cruella reacted, prompting the #FarRight to tell its supporters to protest against the march.

Why is it wrong to call for peace on Armistice Day? 💢 🤔

What we're seeing is sheer electioneering & jockeying for the position of leader.

Her article is confusing. The are in alliance with the , but her article seemingly attacks them as the one's usually causing grief with inflammatory marches.

The DUP want clarification if she's referring to them, as do , because if actually meant the community, it's in bad taste after the atrocity.

Sinn Féin: change maker or party trapped in its past?

Two revealing and compelling portraits of an Irish political force as it finds itself on the brink of power.

Rough Beast by Máiría Cahill, and The Long Game by Aoife Moore, examine Sinn Féin’s metamorphosis from subservient IRA sidekick to peacemaker and now to a party on the brink of power in the north and south of the island.

Reportedly half of Northern Ireland's police force have been in touch with their lawyers over suing whomever is responsible for this Galactic sized fuck up.
The truly British thing to do will be to ignore the problem, keep whomever is in charge in their position and just hope it all goes away like COVID and Climate Change did 🤡

In the summer of 1795 crowds shouting "No war, no Pitt, cheap bread" attacked the prime minister's residence in Downing Street and surrounded the King in procession to Parliament.

Paulo,

After the Acts of Union in 1800 John Courtnay Irish MP welcomed the new Irish MPs to the Commons, but protested the parliamentary oath of allegiance which continued to prevent members of Ireland's Roman Catholic majority from being seated in the House.So its not just #SinnFein!

Morning...

Just catching up on the - the environmental & human disaster unfolding in 🇺🇦 is heartbreaking. Ukraine must win!

is visiting to meet or is he doing some house hunting for after the next election? 🤔 Seriously, what can Britain offer America?

(P.S. the Special Relationship is with Ireland 🇮🇪 an the oldest relationship is with France 🇫🇷)

Plus the reaction of the majority of the Media to being in court - sort of proves his point!

jacqui76,

@harriettmb

I read that this morning Harriet. My first thought is when Michelle is moving onto Hume political ground, what is the point of the SDLP? Other than the fact they take their seats at Westminster, which is becoming less and less important to this island.

Look at the article in the corner of the ! is once again got the begging bowl out. To get his MLA'S back into work (which they are getting paid for)

So a man who is already pi**ing the people off with his aggorance & stubbornness. He is now demanding more money after they got £1 billion for propping up this shower - where did it go? never seen it!

Once again the - if you can be bought, you can be sold!

jacqui76, (edited )

@harriettmb

He stood at front of #Stormont after the worse election result for #Unionism at a local election - they ran to stand still.

They are no longer the biggest party of local government, their biggest numbers of cllrs has been surpassed by #sinnfein

He still has enough front to issue a list of demands to get him to agree to go back to work. The man has an ego bigger than his intelligence. I don't hold out much hope for CHH carrying out his threat!

jacqui76, to random

As usual after another #NI election which saw #Unionism not get their vote out. (Why isn't Jeff appealing to the Unionist voter?) Plus the #DUP taking more votes from a smaller shrinking pool.

Unionism decides that their attempts to fix their problems is to talk to themselves! Not getting out there & talking to the people who stayed at home! #NIpolitics

jacqui76,

First of all Jeff, Jim, Doug, Mike and the rest - need to be honest with themselves and then the voters - Unionism isn't growing it's voting base, they don't have a positive message and the biggest problem - what if they can't form a party to compete with #sinnfein

Despite them trying to make #SF & Michelle the bogeyman - people aren't frightened of SF anymore! No matter how much Ben howls at the moon & 🚮 squeals about 200,000 voters voting for the #DUP & #TUV!

Right now....

Now has topped another poll, made history again in

A not so gentle reminder.... doesn't need the hot takes from the likes of or another English media outlets about what our vote means. We know exactly what it means, why we voted the way we did and what we want to happen.

Yes, are the largest Unionist party but Sinn Fein are biggest party in - by 20 seats in local government!

Time to start paying some attention to other people....

As wee Jeff ( 😭 ) comes on TV

But remember that the Unionism ( & ) were once the biggest parties throughout NI history. The once dominated City Council - which now has Fein has it's largest party.

& are talking about the of Unionism, getting their people out to vote. It would help if they offered them a vision of the that didn't look like pre

jacqui76,

@harriettmb I can't wait for the spin that the #DUP put on this result today.

I am gutted for the #Greens myself. Yeah - it is time for some soul searching for the #SDLP. They are getting destroyed by #Sinnfein

Yes, slow and steady increase for the #Alliance would be nice!

#DUP will say they are the biggest Unionist party which they are. However - they speak for the shrinking electorate, which is losing relevance to the majority of people here.

That is how will always be seen by many many people which is very evident from the reaction to Michelle O'Neill to going to the Cornation.

Which is failing to understand that Sinn Fein has transformed their image on the island. They are the party of the young. Why? 25 years on the younger generation see that as the past, history. It doesn't affect them.

They see SF rightly or wrongly as a progressive party, as the alternative.

Is Michelle O'Neill being very clever in attending the Coronation? Will this marginalise Jeff more?

Thoughts, ladies x

jacqui76,

@Geri @harriettmb

I honestly think this goes back to the mistake that #Sinnfein made over not taking part in the late Queen's visit to Ireland in 2011. Which is widely accepted as a re-set in Anglo-Irish relations. They don't want to make that mistake again.

I think this is MON doing exactly what she said would when became #FirstMinister in waiting - a First Minister for all. She is extending the hand of friendship once again.

This will make #Jeff look rather petty once again. He
