#ArtAdventCalendar Day 18 but I'm posting #December 21 so Blessed and Happy Solstice to all! This date is what all the mid-winter holy days/festivals are really about in the Northern Hemisphere - Sun has reached the maximum of her southward journey, and will begin the slow return. We celebrate the anticipated return of #light but also should take some time to reflect on the darkness: #sleep#blood#soil#death#regeneration#SeasonalRhythms#pagan#animist
Happy mid-summer to Southern friends!
#FotoMontag#PhotoMonday Tomorrow is the #CrossQuarterDay between Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice- this is the real reason for all the end of October/ beginning of November cultural/religious celebrations that have developed in various places. Traditionally for northern Europe this is the beginning of #Winter. It's been pretty accurate here in recent years- late Oct or early Nov has seen lasting #snow for us. this year it started Oct 23 #pagan#animist#Alberta#SeasonalRhythms#BorealForest
There is, though, beneath or beside the colour of the season, another feeling: loss. Even as the colour reaches it peak, it is beginning to fade. Growth slows and stops for the year, nature prepares for winter. Life is locked into stem and root and seed, humans harvest, other animals feast and store fat and food, many birds prepare to leave and chilly mornings remind us there are cold hard days ahead. #WinterIsComing#Autumn#Fall#SeasonalRhythms#BorealForest continued-
