My old monitor died recently and I bought a to replace it. I have a 6500XT, I run with and and the / compositor. I bought the monitor for productivity issues as I'm not much of a gamer, the only games I play these days are Tagpro, a simple capture-the-flag browser game, and Chess.

So I'm lost about what to do. I fix one thing and something else seems to break. On the other hand, this seems to indicate that maybe I'm doing something wrong. Any suggestions on what I should try?

@BigEatie have you tried all that without running picom? I suspect the compositor is to blame.

According to this thread, the --experimental-backends argument to picom could help, or try xcompmgr instead:

Sea of Thieves recently received a DX12 update, and performance has improved. At maximum graphics settings (higher than XSX), I am now getting 240 fps without frame generation. This is at FHD resolution, but at QHD it is around 160 fps, so I have adjusted it to the maximum resolution where I can keep it above 120 fps in every scenario. I am very happy with the update.

My shiny shitbox of random #rgb with the new GPU… I need to replace just one more thing. The CPU AIO is a 120mm radiator and that #Ryzen will boil it during summer…🤡😂 #AMD #Radeon #7900XT

@ssamulczyk ustawienie jednego koloru ledow dużo daje.

Server components, ASSEMBLE!!!!

Ugh, FINALLY got around to getting the last few drives installed in the new rackmount chassis. Figured while I was at it to go ahead and swap out for a beefy #ryzen7 with integrated #radeon graphics since it's a slim build! 😎

#proxmox is up and running, and before long, the #homelab will have another domain controller and some other dedicated #dev machines! 🙌🤘💯 :nixos: :windows: #server #programming

I built my #PC with an #x570 mobo back in 2020 with a #Ryzen5 3600 and 32 gb of 3200Mhz memory, with a plan to upgrade at some point.

I upgraded the CPU with a #Ryzen7 5700 , and a #Radeon 6900 last year.

I think that prices for the #Ryzen9 5950x are low enough to make it worth another upgrade now, but I probably need 3600 Mhz memory while I'm at it.

teamtuck,

@schizanon I upgraded from an AMD 2600 to a 5600X, and from a GTX 2060 to an AMD 6650XT last year. Amazing upgrade.

schizanon,

I decided to go a little more conservative: 5900x and 64GB of 3600Mhz memory. Half the price and still well over twice the specs of my current build. Finally gonna put that nice cooler I bought to work! This'll be my fourth thermal paste change on this PC. Getting my money's worth out of that x570 board!

tristan, to Amd

Turns out that the mobile processor in this server is so new that hasn't released libraries for the integrated GPU, a 780M - GFX1103, yet. "New" is relative; AMD is, seemingly, terrible at releasing code to keep pace with hardware releases. To contextualize how terrible, ROCM just got support for the 7900XT in the last 3 months; this GPU was released in December of 2022. I wish external GPU enclosures weren't a million dollars.

tristan,

@bryansmart I'm running a hypervisor on a mobile Ryzen 9, and it's been killing it, TBH. Officially it's a mini PC, but I'm calling it a server because that's its use-case. I have experience with server hardware and I see the benefits (IPMI, ECC ram, etc), but these processors are really able to rise to the challenge while saving a lot of space and wattage. See my later post after this one. Anyway, I'm attempting to run some AI experiments in a VM using my IGPU until I get a real GPU.

bryansmart,

@tristan Oh okay. Is the integrated GPU any good, though? All of the ones I've seen, at best, can maybe do inference. Even a cheap series 20 RTX totally crushes the ones I saw. Even the Apple silicon one, which I expected to be kinda good, wasn't.
