Oh I do have some good news to share. Which is my sister is going to be admitted to psych hospital next week I think.
Sad that it's taken her life to basically completely spiral downwards out of control for her to face up to the fact she's not doing well again. #MentalHealth#Perth
6 months and 14 months after a blisteringly hot bushfire in #westernaustralia .
It was the Feb 2021 Gidgegannup fire that destroyed homes and scorched everything in its path. It was so hot the land had only just begun recovering 6 months later.
You usually see the kinda growth in the first picture within weeks of a cool burn. The soil turned to sandy ash, with all the soil microbiome destroyed. I'll be going back soon for a 29 month update.
Woke from a bizarre dream about being back at school and having an open-air assembly on a cricket oval, sat front row, kid next to me wouldn't stop talking even when the headmaster told him too. Headmaster gave him a second warning and added "I'm glad Princess Diana died" at which point kid next to me lunged at him and started strangling him until others intervened. Headmaster was El0n.
No idea what any of that means.
Good morning tooterers. How are we all? It's stupidly cold here and I have to go outside to dentist in a bit. #GoodMorning#Dreams#WhatDoDreamsMean#Perth#Cold
Good morning tooter rooters. Hope your day is going better than this dude's (pic lifted from Reddit, reportedly from a town called Chidlow just up in the hills outside town) #Perth#BadDay#DeffoACarton#CantParkThereMate
Most amazing meal at Millbrook Winery in Jarrahdale yesterday. No Waste Monday is the day the chef creates a set menu out of that week's leftovers, and you get 4 courses (panna cotta with persimmon for desert not shown) of amazing food for $50. Veggies are grown at the winery, meat sourced from local farms and seafood is from local waters. #Perth
Toying around with the idea of using ChatGPT or some local version to scrape local food blogs, looking for details about new or closing restaurants and cafes.
Something like this could become a great "notes" feed to highlight where we might need to update #OpenStreetMap
While working to fetch all the posts on the Perth is OK website, I found that the internet archive and the way back machine is an amazing tool for this.
No more dealing with rate limits or "are you a not" systems. Just a easy command to download everything.
It's raining outside so I'm sheltering in the Print Hall bar in town. Closed for like a year for refurbs. Looks exactly the same. #Perth#NiceRainForDucks
Here's the latest variant picture for Western Australia.
The XBB.1.9.* "Hyperion" clan (31%) is battling with XBB.1.5.* "Kraken" variant (23%) for dominance.
XBB.1.16.* "Arcturus" (20%) is growing quite rapidly. Be alert for conjunctivitis symptoms, which seem more common with that variant.
The variant mix in WA continues to be uniquely chaotic, reflecting it's situation as a global crossroads. Even WA residents who've been racking up regular reinfections are likely to meet globally obscure variants capable of overcoming their immunity.
The sample volumes seem representative up to May 12.
My sister is still testing positive on day 13. Just to let you all know #CovidIsNotOver#COVIDisAirborne she has no sick days left. And has had to go to work sick. We can thank our politicians for letting Covid rip on us without protections😞 #MasksWork imagine how many people are walking around transmitting this virus 🦠 #winter#perth
