This is the Silverstone FT03, possibly the greatest #PC case ever made IMHO. The layout looks confusing as hell, but the only important thing to get is that what would be the back of the case is actually the top - its height is also its length, so it can fit a super long graphics card in a tiny footprint, and the whole thing is one air tunnel from bottom to top. I've just spent my afternoon rebuilding the PC that was in it, and it's still just as great today as when I originally bought it.

Ale powiem szczerze, że za drogo. Myślę, że ciężko będzie, żeby zwykły użytkownik, czy nawet bardziej profesjonalny, wydał 7 tysięcy złotych na laptop 16" bez dysku i OS-a. Wiem, że można na nim bezproblemowo zainstalować Windows, ale czy taki komputer wystarczy do zadań profesjonalnych?
Ktoś może powiedzieć, że przecież MacBooki Pro są droższe, ale zauważmy, że one mają bardzo dobry system operacyjny, który jest świetnie dopasowany do konkretnego sprzętu i sprawdza się znakomicie. Prawda jest taka, że w przypadku Maka nie płaci się za sprzęt, a przede wszystkim za system (i proszę mi tu nie wyjeżdżać z żadnym Hackintoshem – doskonale wiemy jak to się sprawdza!).
Inną rzeczą jest też jakość wykonania komputera. Z tego co czytałem w recenzjach, są jakieś problemy z klawiaturą i można je rozwiązać podkładając pod nią gąbki, ale myślę, że sprzęt za tę kasę nie powinien mieć takich problemów. Poza tym jest też touchpad, który jest mały i uważam, że powinien być chociaż moduł z większym.
Ale też jak patrzę na te laptopy, na zdjęciach czy filmach, to nie mam poczucia, że patrzę na sprzęt klasy premium, zwłaszcza jak jest otwarty. Może to ja za dużo czasu spędzam z MacBookiem, ale mam wrażenie, że nowoczesny laptop nie powinien mieć tak okropnych ramek. Wiem, że komputer ma po prostu działać, ale moim zdaniem to trochę wpływa na Komfort pracy. Ale nawet możemy to pominąć, myślę, że argumenty, które przedstawiłem w poprzednim akapicie są wystarczająco
Moim zdaniem jest to świetny pomysł na komputer, ale zbyt drogi i nie do końca przemyślany. Albo po prostu grupa docelowa jest nieprzemyślana. Gdyby istniał wariant, który kosztowałby 5 tysięcy (cały czas mówię o wersji 16") to myślę, że znalazłaby się grupa osób, która by zainwestowała w to urządzenie, ale obawiam się, że w tym momencie w Polsce nie będzie zbyt wielu użytkowników tego sprzętu.

hey #linux people if I was going to build a #PC would I want to use AMD or Nvidia for the GPU? I've heard there's some issues with Nvidia but IDK if that's actually true.
My PC has just told me that it can't run Windows 11, but that Windows 10 will be out of support from October 2025. I have news for you Microsoft, I don't have a spare £1k (or even half that) for a new gaming rig just because you don't like mine. It'll be Linux for me if you force me.
Non so a questo punto se davvero è colpa mia o di #Linux o dei demoni, però… negli ultimi giorni stavo vedendo un utilizzo di RAM sempre più anomalo sul #PC, che sommando il conto di memoria dei singoli processi non tornava, e che dopo ore di uptime si spingeva così oltre da saturare tutta la memoria e quindi far andare il sistema in quello stato di soft-freeze allucinante tipico che costringe all hard-reboot (molto ironico a pensarci). 😩️ Zero voglia di capire il perché di questa cosa, ma in ogni caso credo che era comunque da ripulire il #sistema, perché questo non era l’unico problema strano:
Da qualche mese sono apparsi problemi con alcuni storage rimovibili… gli NTFS non si montavano o si montavano in sola lettura, le FAT invece si montavano in scrittura solo a volte, un disastro… cacca. 💩️
Questo successo proprio ieri, stava quasi per depistare i miei test sull’uso di RAM: in qualche modo, la mia EasyCap (almeno su una specifica delle porte USB) si scollegava e ricollegava di continuo (stando al LED che sfarfallava e ai log di sistema), e dopo qualche quarto d’ora mandava pure in freeze o panic il sistema… wow. Siamo tornati ai tempi di Windows 9x, se un dispositivo hot-swappabile malfunzionante manda in mona il #computer intero, #mannaggia al kernel monolitico dello schifo. 😕️
Quindi, si fa prima a piallare tutto. Volevo mettere Debian, perché su server funziona bene, sicuramente meglio di qualcosa a base Ubuntu… nonostante c’è chi dice che su desktop non è il massimo. Boh, casino per mettere la ISO sulla pennetta con Ventoy a parte (che a quanto pare un giorno si è mezza corrotta e da allora non avvia più la roba compressa in NTFS, quindi ho dovuto copiare il file in un modo preciso per non farlo comprimere…), l’installazione va liscia, e… al boot c’è solo la riga di comando di GRUB. #Ops. 😭️
Ora la pazienza è meno di zero, voglio comunque Debian ma a questo punto dico che voglio tenere Linuc Mint, e allora installo LMDE come alternativa che avevo già previsto. (Btw, hanno reso un po’ più carino l’installer.) E… stessa rogna con GRUB. Ed è solo a questo punto che mi ricordo che forse devo sistemare nell’UEFI l’ordine di avvio che magari è saltato per aria… e si, dovevo fare solo quello, quindi ho praticamente piallato Debian appena installato per niente. Ma ormai mi tengo la menta edizione debianosa va, che è meglio, è anche tutta settata per il desktop e bellina come la normale menta, ma dovrebbe essere più stabile perché non c’è Uculu di sotto… 💢️
Mich pers. gefällt diese News, auch wenn die anhand ihrem Umfang keine grosse Rolle (noch) erhält. In Firmen sind Linux Server üblich aber auf deren Desktop meistens Windows. Wann oder wie lange noch, kommt es zum Linux Durchbruch? ;)

Into The Shadows was an impressive looking 3D fantasy fighting game developed for Scavenger back in 1996 for #PC, #PlayStation and #Sega#Saturn. Only a rolling demo currently exists, but something playable is hoped to be found. Can it be saved?
Both my wife and I have a #LEGO set with a light kit hooked up to our #gaming#PC's. So that when our PC's are on the light kit in the hooked up set is on. Due to the motherboard during #WoL the #USB ports those sets are hooked into are always supplying power. As a result they would always be turned on. I mean, Windows is just such a weird proprietary distro.
It doesn't use the latest Linux kernel, or even a mainstream POSIX-compliant alternative like BSD. Instead, you have a strange CP/M-like monolithic kernel — I think they used to call it DOS — that's been extended to behave more like VAX and MP/M.
It also doesn't use either X11 or Wayland as a display manager. Instead, you have an incredibly unintuitive overblown WINE-like subsystem handling the display.
Because it doesn't use Linux, Wayland, or X11, you are limited in the desktop environment that you can use. There's really limited support for KDE, despite the best efforts of volunteers.
Instead, there's a buggy and error-prone proprietary window manager that ships with it by default. A bit like how Canonical tried to ship Unity as it's default desktop environment with Ubuntu.
And confusingly, they've named that window manager Windows as well!
That window manager lacks many of the features an everyday Gnome or KDE user would expect out of the box.
It also doesn't ship with a standard package manager, and most of the packages ship as x86 binaries, so installing software works differently to how an everyday Linux user would expect.
There's also only one company maintaining all of these projects. It insists on closed source, and it has a long history of abandoning its projects.
And sure, if you're a nerd who's into alternative operating systems, toying with Windows can be fun.
But if your grandpa is used to Linux, frankly he'll be utterly bamboozled by the Windows experience.
I'm sorry to be glib, because Windows does have some nice ideas.
But.
Windows on the desktop just isn't ready for your average, everyday Linux user.
