I'm looking forward to the new #Ladybird browser becoming mature enough to become a viable alternative to Firefox as a daily driver.
I've seen it mentioned that at this time its development is apparently driven by the need to be able to render specific websites and/or page, so I'm going to throw a #challenge that even Chrome failed at rendering correctly until recently:
Thanks again to everyone for supporting our CSS+MathML issue for interop 2024!
Sadly, we didn't make the cut this year. The hard questions remain the same - how do we get traction for a niche topic without an obvious business use case?
So, my recent review of #Teslagrad
(“Official” discussion thread: https://sociale.network/@oblomov/111471523707665307) has me facing an existential dilemma about my website.
Since its inception, I've endeavored to make it as lightweight as possible, or at least to maximize its “content to weight” ratio: until recently, posts were almost exclusively text-only, except for the sporadic self-hosted and often self-written vector graphic.
One of the ways in which I would like to minimize disk usage is using #JpegXL instead of #PNG (or even #JPEG, but I'm not hosting JPEG images), which I cannot do as long as #Firefox doesn't enable JPEG XL support in the mainline edition of its browser (no, I don't care that #Google has decided to boycott it in #Chrome, just like I haven't cared about their lack of #MathML support and proper #SVG animation support for years).
Mastodon should support Markdown formatting. This should actually be defined as a part of ActivityPub. Beyond bold and italics, it would be great to create links to make the content easier to read. https://www.markdownguide.org#Mastodon#ActivityPub
@brennansv@krzyzanowskim Mastodon already support showing posts with a subset of HTML (li (ol, ul), blockquote, pre, abbr, del, code, strong, em). Hopefully soon also #MathML?
P.S. The issues are not actually selected based on the number of upvotes or comments, but having an indication of community interest is helpful - and encouraging - for all parties involved. Thanks!
LaTeX i <annotation>:
I have a truly marvelous proof that xn+yn≠znx^n + y^n \ne z^n which this note is too small to contain!
MathML code in posts will be replaced with a LaTeX equivalent, that the mathstodon.xyz web interface can display.
There's a PR with the code for other vanilla-ish Mastodon instances to use (I had to change the delimiters from dollars to brackets for use here): https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/26943
@christianp Not all ActivityPub-software will use TeX as syntax for creating #MathML. I suspect annotation="text/plain" might be allowed for something like #AsciiMath, ie. don't assume MathML annotations will use TeX.
#mathml here is nearly useless here with long posts with too many math expressions
brevity of [ ] for #latex in #mathstodon is something worth adopting
cc @louis
I must say, emacs.ch has surprised me in terms how I get engagement on nearly any topic, thread I engage to and I am not even high an mighty.
It funny when I was thinking about posting anything besides #emacs
If I am not being unreasonable in my request and admins could only enable #latex , I ll be glad to move my #mathstodon account here as well
IDK who to tag here
I tried the latter
I can see your posts rendering formula for this instance itself
what do I fix in ?
<math>
<msup>
<mi>x</mi>
<mn>2</mn>
