I've unknowingly celebrated with quite a bikey day: I took the kids to school in the #BucketBike, rode my hybrid bike down to the mechanic to get it fixed, then rode the bucket bike to the supermarket for a bit of shopping, then I'll take it back up to school to pick the kids up.
@christianp@haraldkliems it's Madison Bike Week here -- did you schedule this to coincide with the UN Day?
(For myself, I celebrated by doing what I do every school day when the weather is nice: I biked my daughter to school on my cargo bike, and then headed off to work...now, let's see if I can dodge the rain forecast for later today...)
Mark your calendars now for our June meetup! Thursday, June 13th, @joshkarpel will be our guide on the topics of concurrency, parallelism, when to use them, and why. Should be a great talk!
Programming Note: we don't yet have a pizza sponsor secured. 🚫🍕🚫 If you or an organization where you have a contact might want to sponsor refreshments for our group, please reach out!
Happy bookiversary to my debut! One year later and it's sold reasonably well, picked up some award noms, and garnered love from a lot of people. And I've learned a lot about writing, publishing, marketing...myself, maybe.
If you want a copy, find it here: https://books2read.com/u/49dN1p Or I have a few copies--$17 each, send me a msg or an email (ehlupton at gmail).
I just published a very basic introduction to using Boston's #Bluebikes bikeshare system data in #RStats. IMHO this is a great, underutilized dataset and is especially well-suited for student projects!
@streetsblogmass Very nice. Thanks for sharing. Here in #MadisonWI, our bike share system is privately owned and operated, and so we don't get any data (other than what the operator chooses to publish). I think this is something the city should push for the next time the operating agreement comes up for renewal.
I've lost track of how many severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings I've experienced tonight. I guess I'm in the middle of another severe thunderstorm warning right now...
@nedbat Here in #MadisonWI, we were very fortunate to have Sydney Runkle, leading contributor to @pydantic, give a talk at our most recent @madpy meetup. It was a great walk-through of how Pydantic works, and brought out a huge audience of people excited to discuss it
I mention it because she's moving to Boston next week 😢 Wisconsin's loss can be #BostonPython's gain. I highly recommend recruiting her for a talk!
I'm not entirely supportive of these current protests, but it seems not in keeping with UW's traditions and ethos to not at least have at least a little bit of rabble-rousing.
Hey #MadisonWI folks, Kettle Black Kitchen on Monroe St. is worth a visit. We had dinner their last night with some friends and really enjoyed it. I wasn't hungry again until 10:30am this morning!
