It seems like #WeaveWorks (the #GitOps "inventors") have essentially imploded as a company, leaving the #Flux project in... well, flux I guess. We'll likely see more news like this in the #CloudNative space this year :/
Hi all, I've just migrated from @irfan to this account on sakurajima.social. I'll also be attempting to migrate my main account @irfan to this one in the coming days, but I'm expecting nothing on that front since it's failed so far.
I've moved to multiple servers throughout my time on the #Fediverse in pursuit for a "permanent" instance to be on, and I've never had the chance to write an #intro post lol so this will be my first.
I'm a 26 year old (in Nov 2024) (gfdi) programmer obsessed with languages such as #Python and #Shell, frameworks like #Django, and #CloudNative shenanigans like #Docker, #Kubernetes, and #Helm. I'm also obsessed with #FOSS and #Linux, and promoting them to be more viable each day for the masses so everyone could have not just free but secure access to daily computing.
I'll be using this account to mostly document my passions through mini reviews or rants. I have another picture-based account over on #Pixelfed, @irfan. All images I have posted and will be posting will include descriptive/alt text, including my pfp and banner. I also have some bots for posting local (to me, #Malaysia) #news and other relevant data cos the #Mastodon API is just so fun to play with.
Announced yesterday, Regal is a new linter for #Rego, with the ambitious goal of both catching bugs/mistakes in policy code, and to help people learn the language! If you ever work with #OPA, I’m sure you’ll find it useful. Check it out, and if you’d like to help kick-start the project by giving at star ⭐️ I’d be overjoyed!
Great to see more of the #CloudNative crowd now on Mastodon! I’m already seeing way more activity around #KubeCon than I did last year, and the conference doesnt even start until next week. I hope the trend continues. Would be good to see an official #CNCF account here though!
Been curious about what it's like to use Bluefin? Here's a quick tour of it, walking through some of the main changes we make to Silverblue! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_yyyUMecwo
For more stability, the Bluefin custom image defaults to GTS (grand touring support), meaning that we hang back one release of Fedora. It brings stability in general, but specifically to all the GNOME extensions we use.
Good morning from #Munich! 🇩🇪 Two days of #Kubernetes Community Days ahead. I’ll talk #OPA for authorization later today, and a lightning talk on learning OPA and #Rego tomorrow. Good times!
Tonight I’m playing with #rq, a tool originally intended as a #jq replacement using #Rego as its query language, but which eventually grew to be useful for format transformations, and now a full-blown #scripting environment. All powered by #OPA. Madness, obviously, but just the right kind of madness.
Taking a break from my vacation(!) tomorrow and flying to #Munich 🇩🇪 to attend the #Kubernetes community days conference. I have two talks to give, but beside that I’m looking forward just attend and enjoy my time there. Not often that I get to to that, despite going to so many events each year. If you’re going too, let me know! I’d love to meet up 😃
If you're in #Amsterdam 🇳🇱 next week, come join me and many others for another #OPA meetup! @parcifal will be talking about OPA for authorization in #Backstage, and I will be talking about building a linter in #Rego and for Rego — #Regal. It'll be fun!
Kubernetes is a household name in the cloud native world. OKD is a community distribution of Kubernetes, and you can run it locally with CRC! Great for playing with a more rounded out container platform than what Kubernetes does on its own.
Jumping into the deep end with my #cloudnative predictions for 2024. Find out what my 3 predictions are around stress, careers, and costs. #observabililty#o11y
Regal v0.12.0 just released! The latest edition of the #OPA community's favorite #Rego linter adds 4 new linter rules, a long-awaited capabilities feature, and many other improvements and fixes. Check out the full changelog, and get your copy!
From an upcoming talk: "Architecture for fast flow resembles an ecosystem of loosely-coupled independently-viable services with clear boundaries and ownership aligned to the flow of business value."
I wrote a blog describing how I translated a feature request into a #cloudnative#eventdrivenarchitecture, where the events we're interested in convey nothing happening for a certain amount of time.
But before I arrived at my current solution, I considered other solutions. I describe those as well, and explain their shortcomings.
It involves #AWS#DynamoDB, DynamoDB Streams, and #Lambda (#kotlin), with some #DDD context mapping considerations thrown into the mix.
Thinking about the evolution of #cloudnative. Innovation/investment will be driven by where the pain is felt today. What are your top 2-3 areas of pain deploying cloud native technologies today?
Leaving the work week behind with a bang! 💥 Just pushed v0.7.0 of #Regal, the linter for #Rego. Featuring a new 'custom' category where you decide the rules, allowing teams and orgs to enforce things like their own naming conventions. Lots of other good stuff added this summer. If you ever work with #OPA and Rego, make sure to check it out!
Oh, and please give the project a ⭐️ if you'd like to make my weekend even better 😃
Learning about Ansible Ops with #GitLab OIDC security hands-on, and how folks are building developer experience cloud platforms (spontaneous talk today at 3pm that includes GitLab).
Happy to announce that I'll be joining the https://cncf.io as a developer advocate. I look forward to working on the things that our contributors need to move forward, see ya'll in Chicago!
The talk on running #OPA via #Wasm for policy evaluation in hard to reach places, from the #CloudNative Wasm day preceding #KubeCon last week, by #Styra colleague @charlieegan3, has just been published online 😃
