So this is the pictograph to the left of the really crisp one seen in my last post. Sadly, this one has not fared well over the centuries. The left side of it has mostly been washed away by water running down the cliff face. I enhanced this one quite a bit so we could see some of the detail. When it was fresh, I think this one would have really been spectacular! It has many more elements to it than the last one I posted.
I've been experimenting with #360 and #panoramic#photography since the 1990s, since QuickTime VR was a thing, trying desperately to capture the beauty of the world.
This is one of my first attempts from 1997 or so. I was on a #kayaking/#mountainbike trip in #Canyonlands National Park and had gotten out of the kayak to scramble to the top of Bowknot Bend. Once at the top, I took out my trusty #Sony#Mavica digital camera that recorded 640x480 images onto 2.5" floppy disks and snapped a whole bunch of photos as I pretended to be a human tripod.
Weeks later, at home, I hand stitched the photos in #Photoshop 3, or whatever version was current at the time. This was the beginning of a long journey.
I've been going back through my archives and came across this image, previously unedited, taken in the summer of 2015 at Canyonlands National Park. I'm so glad I finally took the time to edit this one, as there's just something about it I love. Prints available. https://rickberk.pixels.com/featured/dawn-at-mesa-arch-rick-berk.html
Sunset over Zion National Park in Utah. Watchman Peak stands guard over the dimly lit canyon. Early October, the Virgin River, Autumn colors just beginning to show.
The rough plan is to fly into Salt Lake City, rent a fun car, take the 3.5hr trip to Moab, and post up there for a few days as our base camp.
Ideally I’d love to meet Jayden out there in the Miata, but I just don’t think the timing will work out. Oh well, hopefully we can rent a RWD convertible.
After reading #DesertSolitaire by #EdwardAbbey & then #MonkeyWrenchGang in '76, we rafted through #Canyonlands in southeastern #Utah. After 8 days of lazily floating under the massive sandstone canyons, we arrived at the confluence of #GreenRiver & #ColoradoRiver & witnessed the immense rapids actively carving the heart of #CataractCanyon. Mind blown & then after the final set of rapids we arrived at a drowned #GlenCanyon 💔 making me a life-long lover of free rivers. 😢 #LakePowell can suck it.
