Lot of people talking a lot of shit about #BurningMan right now, and rightfully so. But want to establish the real actual #history of the event for y’all.
Burning Man began in ‘86 and for the first 5 years was held at #BakerBeach in #SanFrancisco. In 1990, the event was interrupted by the Park Police with concerns about the fire spreading to Golden Gate Park.
The 1990 event was advertised by the #CacophonySociety, an organization of which my aunt, #EthylKeytone, was a founding member.
After the failed beach burn, several Cacophonists including John Law, Kevin Evans, and P Segal, proposed the #BlackRock desert as an alternate site. Larry Harvey, one of the original founders of the event, then accepted on faith that the Nevada desert site would work, and the organization began. #Cacophony events like this were called #ZoneTrips, a reference to stepping into “The Zone,” some extra-dimensional space of constantly shifting boundaries: unknown, tricky and dangerous.
