Ok so here’s what I want, I want #BrailleDisplay brands to start offering realistic payment plans for their products, when your payment plan expects a #blind person to be able to pay ~$300/mo for a year to buy a product that I would really hope should last a hell of a lot longer than that it feels sorta slimey. I mean my phone that is less than a third of the price is on a 3 year payment plan. Also, I’m guessing a whole lot more blind people would buy #braille tech if it could be paid for over 3 or 5 years. @mastoblind

I'm not a heavy Braille user on #iOS so it could just be me but, is it just me or do Braille displays on iOS legitimately not work very well? In 16.7.2, the cursor jumped around the screen when trying to type an email unless I manually changed to eight-dot computer Braille, and on 17, while I don't have that problem anymore, my Braille display (a BrailleNote Apex) doesn't work correctly when the phone unlocks. Braille just doesn't seem to work nearly as well as it did, say, in iOS 12. But then again, neither does iOS as a whole. #Accessibility #VoiceOver #Braille #BrailleDisplay

#NLS #eReader users, has this happened to you? You recently downloaded a book, and have read a significant portion of it. Suddenly, your eReader starts randomly shutting down, even with plenty of power. And/or, it will suddenly freeze up, and then shut down. What to do? DELETE THAT BOOK! This happened to me, and I got the idea to delete the book, remembering that it did seem like there was some funkiness with the download. I am sitting here typing this after deleting a book that, apparently, was somehow causing problems with the device. I was afraid I was going to have to send this thing back to the library, but nope, it's working fine now. #Braille #BrailleDisplay #AssistiveTech

Good night! 🌠 #3GoodThings

  1. I finished another chapter in #Braille!
  2. I chatted with a friend on the phone and helped her figure out a setting with her screen reader.
  3. I updated my #BrailleDisplay. 🙌🏻
Sleep well and may your dreams be out of this world. 🥰🫶❤️🫂

Good night! 🌇 #3GoodThings

  1. We folded and put away the clean laundry that was beginning to pile up.
  2. My yarn arrived and I’ve started the new sweater! 🙌🏻 🧶
  3. I downloaded five novellas in #Braille to load on the Brailleme display. It’s not the greatest #BrailleDisplay but I still use it as much as possible and novellas are easier to get through than full-sized novels.
Sleep well and may your dreams be out of this world. 🥰🫶❤️🫂

I’m not a lawyer and haven’t explored the subject much, so take this with a huge grain of salt, but at a first glance, it seems like the new EU replaceable battery law will apply to devices for the blind such as braille displays, notetakers and book players. To be clear, the law doesn’t actually mandate user-replaceable batteries, it only mandates that batteries can be easily replaced, with tools that can be bought on the free market, with no need to sign any restrictive contracts with the manufacturer. Not sure if this process is possible for current devices, but if not, this has the potential for cutting the EU market off of a lot of blind tech completely.

dhamlinmusic,

@miki #OrbitResearch already has easily replaceable batteries in all of their #BrailleDisplay and most of their other products as far as I know. However the #orbitreader20 and #orbitReader20Plus do not use USB-C which is another problem they would need to address.

@dhamlinmusic tested with my NLS eReader again and it does work now when connected via USB which is good. #android #accessibility #talkback #braille #BrailleDisplay

So I am loving #talkback 14.0 which rolled out yesterday and is almost entirely focused on #braille, #BrailleScreenInput , and #BrailleDisplay support including additional editing functions for displays and editing, granular control, and additional gestures within braille input.

I had the opportunity to evaluate the #Monarch #BrailleDisplay what an amazing device. This could be a game changer. Of course, a 32 x 10 display is great in itself, but being able to have so much real estate on the refreshable display that not only puts out great braille, but tactile graphics as well excites me! I am looking forward to what the future holds for this device. #NFB23 #TechSAAVI

I’m having a major issue using my Mantis and my iPhone. This has probably been happening for about a month now. When I type into a text field, words and sentences are deleted. For example, if I type “today is a beutiful day outside”, the sentence might end up reading, “today is outside”. The deletion happens as soon as I press the spacebar.
I had issues typing this post out, but once I managed to correct the first sentence, everything went smoothly.
I don’t have this problem at all on Mac OS. Anyone experiencing similar isues with the Mantis or any Braille display?
