Jemison was the science mission specialist on the STS-47 Spacelab J flight, which launched September 12, 1992. While in space, Jemison began each shift by informing Mission Control in Houston "Hailing frequencies open." #mlkday
@spocko she's a MD and a chemical engineer, also! I met her and LeVar Burton in 2014 at a conference about thinking 100 years ahead into humanity's future. Wish we were doing more of that these days.

@spocko This is Sharon speaking underneath the shuttle that she worked in for many years. This day was her first seeing the ship since NASA retired it.
