really upsetting to see former Wikimedia Foundation director and CEO Katherine Maher getting targeted by the rightwing outrage machine in her new role as NPR CEO. she's wonderful, and NPR is lucky to have her. i hope they stand behind her.
@molly0xfff really depressing to see those supposed bastions of press standards suddenky not applying the minimum requirements for notoriety and relevance that Wikipedia does. Just following the urge to run after the 24-hours news cycle.
The #NYTimes once published an article saying that #Hitler wasn’t really that bad. He was just using #antisemitism as a way to attract followers & keep them excited about his #political campaign.
The NYTimes more recently published an article saying that #Trump isn’t really that bad. He is just using threats of #violence & #authoritarianism as a way to attract followers & keep them excited about his political campaign.
@thomasfuchs@molly0xfff The game they run is being vaguely socially liberal in their cultural & arts coverage so a lot of people read that as being editorially liberal, and allows other bad faith actors to push the narrative that it’s a “leftist” newspaper. When, as you say, it’s just neoliberal right wing.
@molly0xfff a lot of the analysis in this piece about NPR also applies to the NYT, especially around political coverage. Not surprisingly they have the exact same blind spots
@molly0xfff Anyone who can call Biden or Harris "far left" shouldn't be let out in public without a keeper. Double for anyone who considers it "left" to note #SleepyDon is a racist.
@molly0xfff #ChrisRufo is an insufferable RWNJ who’s done plenty of damage in Florida’s education system, especially with New College. And now he’s set sights for public media orgs.
This will, at best, prompt what journalism failures sometimes do:
Seminars, panel discussions and essays in which those who failed say "On reflection, we should have done it differently."
Those same people doing the exact same thing the next time.
Journalism is like the Keystone Kops, if the Keystone Kops had sat around between movies going "On reflection, we shouldn't have parked the squad car on the railroad tracks."
I don’t like them going after Maher. I don’t like to see the right harass another woman.
I am not the most fluid but I would be willing to contribute to NPR to make a point. If there was a pointed and noticeable uptick of donations - the opposite of a boycott, if you will - would someone notice? Hell, would they report on it?
@molly0xfff
Do not let fascists set the narrative. Do not appease them. There is ZERO reason to include their propaganda on any "news" program or network. They already saturate the information space. Christopher Rufo? Give me a f*cking break. He's a white supremacist book banner and hateful prick. JFC.
