Went for a walk in the woods. Saw a red squirrel bounding around high up in the trees and chased it around for a while trying to get a good angle.

Will sort through properly later as there might be a couple of tolerable shots, but this one amused me.

Not quite what I was hoping for, but it captures a moment.

So I didn't manage to get a great shot, but I did get a little more than just the tail.

@eclectech I'd say they were great! I would be happy to have shot those!

eclectech,
@eclectech@things.uk avatar

@greenpete Thank you! I am very happy with them, but none of them are quite in focus! I'm always quite happy when I get to see one scamper about though, photo or not 😊

@eclectech I know what you mean, I have rejected soooo many of my own pictures because they're not sharp enough.

eclectech,
@eclectech@things.uk avatar

@greenpete Yep, and they can be soooooo close! Have to say if I could leap across the treetops like this wee one could I don't think I'd stop for someone to take a photo either though. It was very impressive.

@eclectech Have you ever watched squizzels chasing each other in the trees?
It's amazing!

@greenpete I know! Amazing skillz!

This is the one I really wish I'd managed to get sharper, but given that it was a Surprise Squirrel, and I was just having a wander in the woods, it'll do 🙂

@eclectech I now have an urge to suddenly yell "SURPRISE SQUIRREL" at people when they least expect it, with no explanation. That's perfectly normal for a mature* grown up, right?

*allegedly

eclectech,
@eclectech@things.uk avatar

@teapot_ben That sounds absolutely reasonable to me.

NeadReport,
@NeadReport@vivaldi.net avatar

@eclectech Given how fast these little buggers are, those are right-nice!

NeadReport,
@NeadReport@vivaldi.net avatar

@eclectech
Also, these will lend themselves to good boopage.

eclectech,
@eclectech@things.uk avatar

@NeadReport Hah! Thank you. It was super-speedy, and through very dense trees at times too. It would be so nice to just be sitting in the right place as one scampers in front of you, with a brief pause for you to focus properly.

@eclectech Haha, I’ve got one like that too… 🫣 And that one was my best shot. 🙄

eclectech,
@eclectech@things.uk avatar

@DanielleVossebeld They are very fast, and in this case very high up too. It was never going to end well for me 😆

So nice to watch though 🐿️

@eclectech I know. Maybe there should be a squirrel challenge, photographing a squirrel in motion.

So maybe you could train the squirrels to sit quietly, so when I visit Scotland in July, it will be easier for me? 😊

I found mine, the squirrel was so fast, the red colour has faded from the picture (grey squirrel?).

eclectech,
@eclectech@things.uk avatar

@DanielleVossebeld Hahaha, I'll do my best, but based on the one today they don't listen to me.

I really like that photo! You've definitely captured the essence of squirrel.

I seem to recall reading that red squirrels aren't always red (?!) but that the tufty ears was the biggest giveaway. Which unfortunately doesn't help in this photo 😆
