It's been v instructive trying to include #alttext in online html created in Rmd. The actual code is very easy (include fig.alt = 'y', as well as fig.cap = 'x' in code chunk), but I wanted to check if it worked, & that meant using Voiceover - the reader that comes with the Mac. I recommend that other sighted authors try this as it can affect how you organise material.
Also, punctuation becomes more important. #accessibility#figures#captions
