with a ton of that crowd, they really have no idea what strength is. but they so badly want to appear strong, as they assume that will make others around them think they actually are strong.

it's a sort of projection. they're weak, so they worry that others will perceive them as weak. it locks them into a constant obsession with appearing strong, so people won't realize how weak they are.

the fallacy in all that is assuming that other people care, most don't, as most are locked into their own various insecurities and are usually worried about how they appear to the world.

real strength, and other qualities, isn't worried about what others think. it's like being cool. you're not cool if you have to go around and tell others how cool you are. if you're cool, others will recognize that pretty quickly. if you're not cool, no amount of faking it will ever make others think you are.

didn't an act of Congress recognize Confederate soldiers as American Veterans?

Could the Federation defeat Star Wars' Empire in an all-out war?

Would a Federation warship like the Defiant out gun a Star Wars Star Destroyer? Who has a bigger armada? Who has the tactical advantage? Don’t forget that The Federation includes the Klingons, who love warfare and have fast, agile, heavily armed ships, with cloaking devices, and the Vulcans with superior logic and tactical...

i mean, as part of my job, i routinely take area hospitals medical grade leeches. it's not like they ever stopped being used by doctors.

at some point i hope people do start to realize that open source means they get worked on by people, when they feel like it.

that cuts both ways. for some things it's great, for some things it's not. the end result can be great, but sometimes it takes a REALLY long time to get there.

just remember, at some point, two dudes had a barroom bet. one of them insisted that 'anyone can make a movie'. in the course of proving his point, he spent $19,000 and made a film that some consider to be one of the worst movies ever made.

he was right though.

people think immortality is a gift.

but it is a curse.

immortal bacon would be no different.

the times we don't have bacon, give delicious flavor to the times when we do. if it was bacon time, all the time, then the phrase 'bacon time' would lose it's significance.

it's pork dog, like many things it needs to be cooked properly.

if you want to risk it for undercooked meat, that's on you. but certain things need to be sanitized. cooking does that. there are many ways to have chewy, yet properly cooked bacon.

personally, i've got more important shit going on that what phone people are using. in the case of this phone, it looks like any other number of Android phones with a custom theme.

i'm assuming it's more than that, but it still looks a bit silly. you can be minimalist and still appreciate things like color.

Nokia's got you covered

they also nailed the minimalist vibe better.

i don't think we should act like journalism was in a great place before.

FB capitalized on a weakened industry, but it was the industry itself that was responsible for that state.

they really fucked themselves by not transitioning to the new market, instead insisting that it was the customers that were wrong. all these years later, i've yet to see a news outlet that would be worth the subscription fee. they're mostly recycling content from other, free sites anyway.

once the older crowd passes, traditional news outlets are done for. the ones that remain will be the ones that were providing the content all along.

The cost of cigs is also artificially inflated in many places. I’m glad to see less of the younger crowd smoking, that’s a good thing. But doing it in these ways just feels plain un-American.

We let an awful lot of things that are bad for us slide, because the effects aren’t as visible.

everyone knows, there's a certain amount of fucking around you get for free. the real problem is that the finding out part can happen quick, and seem to come out of nowhere.

generally computers won't stop doing things they were already capable of doing. tons of machines and businesses may rely on older hardware and software to complete specific tasks.

but yeah, a 486 is pretty past its prime, and the task could have been accomplished on something far more modern.

phones and tablets are fine for consuming media. they are noticeably worse at creating it.

i couldn't imagine typing out long responses, sometimes with links, with a phone or tablet.

as for how many consumers still use PCs, hard to say. i know i don't go a single day without using mine. whether it's to play a game, type up a guide for someone to do something, or whatever else. on the flip of that, i also own a ultrabook that i use when i'm away from home. it's capable of doing many things, but it's no where near as capable as my desktop setup.

Live Updates: Haley Is Expected to Suspend Her Campaign (www.nytimes.com)

After Donald J. Trump tallied victories in Texas, California and 12 other states, Nikki Haley was expected to drop out of the presidential race, according to people familiar with her plans. She was set to deliver remarks in Charleston, S.C., at 10 a.m. Eastern.

my take is if you are old enough, that if working in the business sector, they'd have forced you to retire, then you're too old for a elected position. basically 60-65 should be the cutoff.

on the flip, i don't think the Executive branch should be elected at all. i think it should work somewhat like jury duty. you get called to serve your country. you should be interviewed by your peers to determine if you would be fit for the role.

Not to mention that reactor meltdowns are actually impossible in some new designs and extraordinary difficult in others.

just to point out, it's the Russians we're talking about here.

the Chinese aren't above fucking something up either, but i have more faith in them than i do the Russians. also, when things are difficult to do, the Russians seem to find a way.

take that as you will.

none of us are happy with the outcome.

pretty much ALL of us would have settled for $2.4 million.
