They actually get dangerously close to them, to pet them and take photos of them and feed them, then these tourists wonder why are they being attacked...
Perhaps you are interpreting their request to not use username and site name and instead use email, to instead use a long form Lemmy username?
No, I was saying to use their Fediverse username and their Fediverse password. Sorry if I got misunderstood. Nothing to do with the actual email address used at signup.
To do so, there would need to be a centralized or federated list of all accounts
Why would there be? The app would just search for the domain name first (let's say "aussie.zone") and then your username (in your case "hitmyspot"). That's kinda how email works as well. What centralized database would you need to interrogate a server on login? It's no different than the current implementation, only that you do not need to remember the website first, just enter the whole username in one go.
The military-industrial complexes always have something to gain in wars (provided they manage to adapt in time). But there's no other alternative industry that can supply the needed hardware to win a war, when an invasion happens. It just seems that's all what our species can do best: kicking each other, then having a rest for a few dozen years and starting over.
Meta had a great decision to have Threads join the Fediverse, but they still don't really care too much about it. What it cares more is stealing the user base of the defunct Twitter, while also throwing federation into the mix for those who care enough about it (or maybe for interoperability and EU standards? Who knows?).
At this point, it just seems they are 100% focused in providing 2-way communication between Threads and the rest of the Fediverse, indeed - in regards to actually federating comments, posts, likes, boosts (or whatever are they called there). But the Fediverse is more than that - will users reliably be able to follow peertube accounts and keep up with their video content? Will Threads users be able to follow Lemmy communities, Kbin/Mbin magazines, Friendica groups? Will they be able to post on there? Will they be able to see custom emojis of various servers? I think there will probably be some platforms that will not be 100% compatible with Threads (due to missing features of the latter) and Meta will not do anything about it.
Not to mention that in order to activate the Fediverse integration on Threads, you have to have a public account. So you can reliably rule (some of) your friends and family out of the question if they are choosing to have private accounts instead
