Mystery tree of the day. Maybe a shrub. Extremely popular with the pollinators. Blooms year round. Covered always with honeybees, carpenter bees, native bees, hummingbird, you name it. Neighbor (one that will talk to me, LOL) hates it and always tells me she wishes I would get rid of it. (Update: Almost certainly Grewia occidentalis, the Crossberry -- very useful plant, and edible!!!) #mystery
Hmm, I wonder if the McDonald's french-fry slipstream goes past the high point on my morning hike, or if it's just a general french fry inversion. As soon as I reach the top it's like standing next to a McDonald's. (nearest one is several miles away and a couple hundred feet lower in elevation) 🤔

Ok, figured out the only way to make the big hill up to my house less intimidating on a bicycle is to cycle up it a few times each week to re-adapt my legs to the slope. (I'm generally in shape, but hiking muscles != bicycling muscles). Looks like it's really just 8-13% grade, with the steepest just short bits, and not too long. Only a bit winded. Legs will feel it tomorrow. #BikeTooter
In an unplanned exercise in #probability, I let my students of my Field Professionalism/Wilderness First Aid class this semester pick either of two weekends (whichever one works out better for them), and it's exactly 50-50 so far on which one they have picked. #math

My #wildfire#safety protocol (assuming you have done all the wildfire pre-prep earlier in the season). 1. Applies to RED FLAG or near RED FLAG (ie. windy, dry) conditions ONLY. I pay attention other times, but not as much. 2. Pay attention to National Weather Service forecasts, and READ THE NOTES. You want to be aware of direction of wind, timing, and where the biggest threats are. If it's not a RED FLAG, I am not as worried, at least in SoCal (lots of firefighting resources). (cont)
