Watched Dune 85 with my Dune loving boys tonight. Let’s state the results showed Dune 85 has many high points and we should respect it. No it isn’t better it just does some things better.

The CRUD pattern of content is create, read, update, and delete. However, on the web, this pattern is less CRUD and more CRR, as in Create, Read, and Rot. Content maintenance with fixes and purposeful deletion rarely happens. We could do more, but why? Maintenance and content curation isn't a path to promotion -- rather, creation and readership are where career gains come from.

Now, inject LLMs into that sad state of stale content creation over curation; what possibly could go wrong?

    Saw my second today it had been wrapped baby blue but it was just absurd as the first one I saw. That first day I actually laughed out loud when I saw one on the road.

    To each their own I know but I feel like “Friends don’t let friends drive cybertrucks”really should be a new saying.

    Damn I really need to invent something like that.

    So once Forbes “invited me to write”. I responded and it turned out to be you have to pay thousands of dollars. I was like “oh so that’s a scam” and threw it away. Then a little later I saw my boss on a Forbes byline 😂

    thomasapowell,
    @thomasapowell@fosstodon.org avatar

    @dfeldman you mean that interview they wanted to do with me for pay for wasn’t because people actually want to hear my insights ?

    The list of pay to appear important scams is getting way too long and Forbes really wants to be a big player. Your boss helped them on their quest!

    Well LLMs prove for certain that if you are good enough at bullshitting people really will think you are super intelligent even though you have absolutely no idea what you are saying.

    #Shogun is hitting better than I might have thought because I got all into the history when I was in Osaka #Japan last month. Sure we sensationalize everything, but I am really liking the show.

    I saw a #CyberTruck live on the road. I spontaneously laughed and then shook my head. It truly looked to me like a crappy movie prop car from a late 70s or early 80s apocalypse movie. I guess if you like that then go for it ?

    Ditching turn signal controls might not matter since a lot of Model 3 drivers don't seem to use them enough anyway, rather doing a quick acceleration zip into the lane-before-you-know-it approach.

    As a very seasoned adult making new friends can be tough. I’ve had a good friend that I made was the husband of my wive’s bestie and we became really good friends. Been buds for about 6 years often doing our own stuff together but apparently now since my wife and his wife went totally south we have to not hang at all. I get why, but not gonna lie it makes me super sad.

    So I don’t disagree #Dune is a great movie, I found it just breathtaking. I am no big book fanboy but I felt despite loving this movie the plot down graded the importance of spice into some sort of mcguffin substance and was absolutely not a good decision. I also think cutting the whole thinking computers banning history and Mentats was a missed opportunity given the current cultural interest around AI.

    A movie can be great AND also have flaws.

    In Japan and spot nearly 2 shelves in a large book store on #ChatGPT. My written Japanese isn’t strong enough at all to say anything super meaningful but the examples suggest very tutorial level kind of stuff on usage as opposed to a deep technical discourse. Interesting nonetheless.

    Today the #VisionPro went to the office. It is a bit of a pain in the ass to do the guest mode, remove my prescription lenses, get them in and then show them enough with mirroring on. As troubling as it was there was just person after person with“whaaat!?” And “wow” To a person all who tried it came out very impressed. Hard to see it flopping if it causes this kind of reaction.

    I got a bit of a sore throat last night and had a late night teen parenting incident so no way I was going out this AM to watch #LFC at a bar. I was sorely disappointed about that when I started watching given the important of the match but after that showing I am a bit glad I didn’t. Ugh.

    An interesting small discovery that is now obvious about #VisionPro is your perception of where your mouth is will be off by a few centimeters. Verified when I was to sip a drink and the cup was at my lips until much later. It’s obvious the cameras and the thickness are to account for that spatial difference. Besides that the pass thru illusion is amazing as I walked around the house, sat with my cat, etc and never noticed much. But near your mouth is an uncanny valley.

    @thomasapowell@fosstodon.org avatar

    Posting this from a #VisionPro bridging my Mac to a 12 foot monitor in space. My impression so far is just wow. The most impressive are the spatial videos. I took my own in Kauai and indeed they are near memories. 3D movies are absolutely insane on it. The battle scene in Rogue One was super intense. People hating on this thing likely haven't used it yet. Yes your eyes will tire (I have prescription inserts) & it's heavy, but spatial computing is actually here at least 1.0 style.

    Many posts observe AI, Arc, etc. exist because they can freely & easily exploit the raw info materials of our shared online space. They grow big as consumers love convenience blind to the costs.

    This hyper version of (content) extraction & (creator) exploitation simply isn’t sustainable just like IRL. Free (raw content) materials will exhaust or get much worse, so costs will go up as content & creators are driven behind walled gardens.

    This is just market economics not technology at work.

    Twas the night before #VisionPro, when all through the lands techies were hoping soon to stop using their hands

    The hot takes were pre written all with much care, with hopes that St. Jobs spirit would still be somehow in there

    The nerds all nestled all snug in their beds, with VR visions not AI nor crypto danced in their heads.

    My girl in her LuLus, and me with emails still,had just settled our selves for a long Netflix and chill.

    Away to launch windows I clicked like the Flash, tore open my socials, ready to threw down my cash.
    The moon on my screen pix covered by hopeful sane threads had a luster of normalcy rather than that of pure dread, when, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but an X troll’s shit post of Apple glasses up his rear.

The sight of a Jule pipe he held tight in his teeth, and the vape smoke encircled his head like a wreath. A wink of his eye and a twist of his head soon gave me to know I had much to still dread. Then he spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, and filled my hard drive with malware , then called me a jerk.

    And flipping the bird after picking his nose he gave me a nod and yanked once on his hose. But I saw his last post on my thread for the night. “Apple lovers are stupid and you surely ain’t right!"
