Everyone, I have an idea:

We should create a global holiday:

Backup Day. Everyone gets a day off to stay at home and make sure that all important files are backed up. At the end of the day you have a family dinner and share a scary data loss story to scare the kids

Edit: as some have pointed out, there already is a Backup Day! It is March 31st so I expect no less then a large celebration on @fosstodon next year. Happy Backup day everyone! :omya_aws:

Just realized you can use a well organized email inbox as a sort of personal wiki/journal. Sending emails to yourself and categorizing them in folders, etc. you can embed images/tables with html and have attachments. append more info by replying and even have it be collaborative if other people reply to a thread.

And everything is synced between clients.

Did people do anything like that before other solutions (like obsidian/google docs) got popular?

#selfhosting and #nextcloud update:

My Google drive -> Nextcloud move has been going great so far. The desktop and mobile clients work very well, and the virtually unlimited storage space I have on my instance makes it awesome for syncing very large files (which I've been needing to do a lot lately)

For the folders where I needed 2 way sync in my mobile devices (neither mobile clients can do) I found that #syncthing works perfectly

So, I did transfer all my pictures to my #nextcloud instance. But could not remove them from #google photos, because it is still better for managing and sharing them, sadly. For now my #selfhosting option is just as a backup
