My M4 iPad Pro review is live on YouTube. It CAN be used as a legitimate “pro” device. In fact, I used it as my only computer for two weeks—everything I do on my Mac, I could do on the iPad. But it was painful and inconvenient. https://youtu.be/sFJuAjyWOc4?si=msKv-tAD8nExAVst
@dennyhenke@snazzyq I have no horse in this race, but I'm very curious about what's bothering you about this review. It's always good to know what the reviewer missed, so I can better understand their opinion later down the line.
Can you tell me what inaccuracies were there? How would presented workflows look for someone who knows how to use iPadOS?
@LeonOmelan@snazzyq Yep, you'll find a partial list and easy to understand, detailed explanation in the link below. Nothing too complicated and easy for anyone that actually knows how to use iPadOS.
@soheb@snazzyq you need a brand new iPad Pro, it doesn’t work on anything else. It has a squeeze gesture and the ability to determine orientation, so rotating it on the long axis can rotate a selected graphic etc
Ready for a deep-dive on tandem OLED technology and the N3E-derived M4 SoC found in the new iPad Pro? I'm coming with the facts and nerdy details you're not likely to find anywhere else! https://youtu.be/3moprE5S3Qc?si=zp99PdXqyhmqYO7z
The AI “revolution” will happen on the smartphone. Watch my review of the Rabbit R1 and Humane Ai Pin to learn why dedicated AI hardware (a) isn’t something you should buy yet, and, (b) why it never will be. https://youtu.be/QWs1N_pie3Q?si=0ZmNbpVifJiQKaWB
I use a custom smart list for my "today" view in Reminders (default doesn't allow for custom parameters and is thus not very 'smart' at all). Want to map Action Button to that Smart List, but it's not an option. So, Shortcuts... right?
Well, Shortcuts lets me open a "Smart List" or just a regular "List;" however, my Smart List doesn't appear in either—not in Lists because it's no regular List—but also not in Smart Lists because that apparently only shows the defaults?
If it's a one-off, so you just need to get a hold of this one link to set up this one shortcut, it could be worth it to do some finessing to extract the concrete x-apple-reminder:// URL. But it seems like a clunky workflow to do often.
@aaronschendel@snazzyq have the same issue … looks like my Mastodon instance (@trumpet) refuses to federate with Threads. Hope they reverse this decision soon (or any recommendations for a better instance?).
@raf80 We’re looking into how we can protect users who don’t want to federate while allowing those who do. The solution will likely be to limit Threads, while enabling authorised fetch on the server so that user-level blocks will be more rigid. I hope to post more on this soon.
@atpfm@siracusa@caseyliss@marcoarment I’m quite confident speedometer and cameras (in addition to drivetrain function) is on a RTOS. You can reboot a Rivian infotainment and it’ll show a crappy speedometer number and camera feeds on a black screen the second you reboot it even as the infotainment is rebooting (this also works under a full car reboot too FWIW after about 2-3 seconds after initial “on.”)
@snazzyq@siracusa true, but when you consider how the camera feeds and speed information feed into various safety features (adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking etc) it makes sense these would be managed by a RTOS. This page from QNX (RTOS used by Rivian) specifically uses adaptive cruise control as an example where a RTOS is needed. https://blackberry.qnx.com/en/ultimate-guides/software-defined-vehicle/automotive-rtos It’s hard to find documentation, but I imagine the RTOS handles the data and the infotainment OS makes it look pretty.
@siracusa@snazzyq I’m behind on ATP, and I’ll listen when I get a chance, but it’d be bananas to the point of being dangerous if it wasn’t an RTOS. There are commercial OSs available that can be customized to do what they’d need. I’ve a high regard for Rivian and I’d be shocked if they’d half assed something that important.
@siracusa@snazzyq Nope, the downtown streets are just enormous. My street in a suburb close to downtown is much like how you described yours. It’s technically a two-way street with parking on both sides which effectively makes it a one-way (which is kind of nice tbh because it naturally slows down traffic)
After TWO WEEKS of working on it, our first Vision Pro video is finally up. We're tackling displays, lenses, batteries, passthrough, and more; HOWEVER, in a way that addresses your questions that have gone unanswered! https://youtu.be/eOH33sWgds8
@snazzyq I look forward to the day when the descendants of Vision Pro and SORA let you just speak any immersive environment you can think of into being around you on demand, like a Holodeck or Danger Room. That'll be the day!
OK, you’ve seen the videos… what questions do you still want answered about Vision Pro? It can be anything from fitment to hardware technicalities to software features, and more. Ask away and I’ll answer them in my video on Saturday
Never been more grateful than today to have done LASIK. So sorry to everyone that wears glasses or contacts that fall outside of the (seemingly narrow) supported ZEISS lens selection for Vision Pro.
@snazzyq I‘m wearing contacts and would think it shouldn’t be a problem with the Vision Pro? I.e. using it while wearing the contacts.
Guess it’s more of a problem if one cannot wear contacts, only glasses. But yeah, then it sucks.
@zarlock I typed contacts with my fingers but by brain was not thinking when it typed that. Yes, shouldn’t be an issue. Unless I suppose you’re trying to target a non-infinity focus distance and you use readers…
