What are your thoughts on DNF (Did Not Finish)-ing books? Do you feel guilty about it? Do you worry you missed out on something? Or are you confident in dropping a book and reaching for the next one?

At what point are you most likely to DNF, if ever? What sorts of things cause you to DNF?

Hey bookish folks, I'd love your help! How do you find new-to-you books to read?

I'm trying to figure out where to advertise my books now that I have a fourth book out ( https://buy.bookfunnel.com/vxvlyi6b0v ). I'm rather unknown so can't spend big $$ but it's hard to know where is best to find readers. And yet, it's hard to have a budget without readers, too!

@ClH2OArs I love worldbuilding too. It’s one of my favorite aspects of writing. My stuff all shares a world, but I like to dive deep into here or there. It’s so fun to take something only in my brain and make it seem real.

Sept 17: How do you promote your writing?

Instead of answering, I went through all the responses thus far and made a spreadsheet of the answers. (This is absolutely non-scientific and possibly inaccurate, plus there's no data as to how well these strategies worked, but hey, I was curious and thought maybe others might be interested too.)

I also have a list of "Other" answers that didn't fit neatly in these boxes or struck me in some way-- I'll link those next.

Sorry guys, we ran into tech issues. Apparently voting for the #IndieInkAwards was down for two hours tonight because with all the new people coming in and voting (and each needing an Indie Story Geek account), we sent over 700 emails today and Google got mad and de-activated the Indie Story Geek email account.
It's restored, for now, but Husband's looking into a solution because it's only likely to happen again. The perils of the voting program being suddenly popular!

I write fantasy novels with a touch of science fiction full of deep, immersive worlds, powerful characters, and magic that’s as organic as running or speaking. I draw a lot on #ecology with my secondary world setting, and I re-imagine traditional fantasy, building each culture from the ground up including #linguistics .

My stories often feature fierce sibling relationships, found family, strong friendships and light in the darkness.
What won’t you find? Very many swords, kingdoms, or knights.

I finished the second book in the saga titled "The Tombs of Atuan". It's great.

It follows the story of Tenar, a girl taken to an old temple in the desert to be the priestess devoted to the "Nameless Ones", ancient gods long forgotten.

She was very lonely there; all her life changed when she met Ged, the first book's protagonist, who was in the underground labyrinth under the temple looking for an ancient relic. This encounter completely changes Tenar's life.

The main topics of the book are freedom, gender, and the power relations emanating between those, reflecting the anarchist views of Ursula.

Wait have you ever read A Wizard of Earthsea? It's one of my all time favorite books ever. I really want to get this illustrated version sometime.

Booo is postponed until mid-September. I’ve been wanting to get back into it if my will possibly let me. I guess I have a month of playing at home and trying to build up my strength before class, but I’ll miss the atmosphere. Hopefully by the time it’s going again I’ll be able to play for longer and/or more reliably.

I have a book coming out Jan 20th!
It's a standalone connected to my Children of the Nexus series (same world, the love-interest here is a main POV in the series)

This book has:
so much banter
strong sibling relationship
strong friendships
friends-to-lovers
gay side characters
main character anxiety rep
diverse cast
deep worldbuilding
action and adventure, wilderness survival style
low fantasy (none of the main group displays clear magic on page)
single PoV, third person past tense

The r/Fantasy Holiday Megasale is up--over 700 books from over 200 authors participating, all free or 99cents. This sale gets bigger every year--but every year, it supports charities too.
