I must have weird taste in scifi movies.
I just watched Atlas and thought it was pretty good.

But I thought Rebel Moon stank on ice.

Go figure.

rivetgeek,
@rivetgeek@dice.camp avatar

@nyrath I couldn't get into Atlas. It just didn't click for me.

I watched about 15 minutes of Atlas on Netflix and I couldn't continue. It's not absolutely terrible but it's not good.

I loathe current-AI in basically all its forms. It's unethical, absolutely divorced from anything that resembles consent.

But you know what I would want AI for?

Smarter driving instructions. A GPS in my car that learns how I like to drive - no lefts on busy streets for example. That when I ask about things like a coffee shop or takeout food en route gives me the option to specify if it has a drive thru and is it on the right side of the road?

AI that serves me, not replaces me.

@MsHearthWitch I would never use Copilot to write code from scratch. I tested that out and it tried to use PowerShell commandlets that don't exist or don't work the way it tried to use them. But Copilot's proven to be a capable smarter autocomplete. Or for explaining what is wrong with a script (especially simple things like I misplaced a curly brace). Totally wouldn't trust it for anything more important than that.

I guess #TTRPGs aren't OSR unless they come from the Lake Geneva region of Wisconsin, otherwise they're just sparkling retroclones?

At our offsite our new cybersec engineer passed out YubiKeys for those who wanted to participate in a beta testing them out. It doesn't work with a few internal things our team uses but works great for logging into my machine, Zscaler, and Okta.

When I got home I realized my laptop is in a dock. Luckily it worked to move the key to a port on my headphone stand where I can easily reach it. I suppose that's kind of an opsec fail revealing that, so none of y'all better try to steal my work laptop.

Hey did you guys know that if you miscategorize a modern rules-light RPG as "Other OSR Games" you can make RPG fans very upset?

Our bad. Thank you all for the grace of forgiveness. We are humbly reclassifying our game as "Other d10 System" and sincerely apologize for any distress we've caused. It was not our intention, and we'll be more careful in the future.

rivetgeek,
@rivetgeek@dice.camp avatar

@alxd @FullyAutomatedRPG The whole point of FitD and PbtA is licensing. Sure you don't have to pay anything for either license, but aside from PbtA being more of a vibe than anything the ability to use FitD's or PbtA's logo on something means adhering to the license.

I don't know what the OP has system-wise but a Cyberpunk retroclone to me is just as "old school" as a D&D retroclone.

rivetgeek,
@rivetgeek@dice.camp avatar

@FullyAutomatedRPG @alxd Fuck that, if a bunch of people wanted to be pixel-bitchy about a category, be as snarky as you want.

rivetgeek,
@rivetgeek@dice.camp avatar

@FullyAutomatedRPG @alxd I always assumed there were non-D&D derived OSR games.

Anyone else read adult books in like middle school? And instead of adults freaking out, they encouraged it? I read horror "early" & everyone from teachers to neighbors were thrilled to recommend more, plenty with sexual content, worried more if the gore/terror would be too much.

rivetgeek,
@rivetgeek@dice.camp avatar

@thoughtpunks By the time I was 12 or so I had exhausted the books I was interested in reading in the children's section of the local library and was checking out books from the adult science fiction/fantasy section. I saw Alien when I was 8. We found a box full of Playboys that someone was throwing out when I was 10 or 11. We used to try to watch scrambled porn on SelectTV. This pearl clutching about books in schools has nothing to do with protecting kids and the right wingers know it.

After spending some time with my Anker Sound Core Space One headphones, I realized they were pausing for notifications on my phone and not announcements. The notifications just happened to be from the airline, at the same time the gate counter was making announcements 🤣

Morning not off to a great start with a tire pressure alert. Trying to get that fixed before going into work.

rivetgeek,
@rivetgeek@dice.camp avatar

@targrus We had a van where the tire pressure sensors would routinely just fail. It was a known thing so when we took it in for tire rotations or whatever they'd just replace them.

There's something comforting about knowing that during a flight you won't have an Internet connection. For that period of a few hours you have to entertain yourself the way you would have before web browsing and smartphones.

Who am I kidding? Having wifi on a plane fucking rocks.

Holy shit, I submitted my wishlist for #GenCon the instant the button became available and I'm #12329 for processing. I don't know if that's good or bad. I'd hate to see what it would be if I hesitated.

@starhawk I got a decent amount. I think I'm just going to go with the flow for the remaining time.

rivetgeek,
@rivetgeek@dice.camp avatar

@frequentbeef I didn't get everything but I'm fine with that. Gives me more time to wander or just park my ass in open gaming. Considering running some Tribes in the Dark.

rivetgeek,
@rivetgeek@dice.camp avatar

@frequentbeef Not sure if it's a good idea or not to offer it, but I would've likely paid some amount for early-bird event submission. Probably not feasible given the scale.

rivetgeek,
@rivetgeek@dice.camp avatar

@frequentbeef I could see that. I got an event for every day at least, and I'll check the others occasionally in case tickets get returned as well as have a handful of generic tickets. It's all good.

rivetgeek,
@rivetgeek@dice.camp avatar

@frequentbeef I'd just do it ad hoc. That way if I decide not to I can just not.
