It doesn't take much effort to make your website join the Fediverse and the open social-web IN A VERY BASIC WAY,.

And by "VERY BASIC WAY" I mean — being able to look up your website using a Fediverse ID and have a profile show up.

I did it for my (new) personal website last night.

How is the Fedi NOT going to end up like email is today (ie, Gmail, outlook, employers and fringes)?

Not sure I’ve seen anyone talk about this much? With the spam incidents, talk of allow-list federation modes and the seemingly natural tendency for big instances (ATM, ~30% all MAU), and you know, threads/meta joining … it seems like an unsurprising outcome especially should the user base increase.

Single user instances already seem painful enough to not be worth it for even many who can.

I just did a video call with a bunch of people.

There was a ChatGPT based agent in the call.

(It "listened" to the audio, but responded in text.)

It was answering some people's questions.

It was very limited — but interesting.

I know I am not the only one to notice the similarity, but — it feels a bit like (a very primitive version of) the computers on Star Trek.

I have returned!

Frames are interesting in many ways.

There are a number of ways it could be improved. And they (the Farcaster team) seem to have that in their mind, too.

It is simple to develop Frames applications.

It does NOT bring with it the security & privacy problems the Web has.

It can fall-back to OpenGraph and the Web (when the client doesn't understand Frames).

You don't need to deal with an "app store" and all the B.S. that comes with it.

I gave my son his first Masters of the Universe (MotU) toy.

(Well, if you don't count the vintage Attack Trak toy I gave him before.)

He saw a carded MotU Origins Clawful, and wanted it, so I gave it to him 🙂
