We have added new regional servers to Obsidian Sync. You can now sync faster by selecting a region close to you.

Options include North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. All are secured with AES‑256, the strongest encryption standard.

realestninja,

@mattwilcox @obsidian actually you just have to disconnect the current remote vault, then create a new remote vault and choose the new one for syncing.

Your local data won't be lost.

But I agree, an option to migrate would be handy.

I just moved my vaults to Europe and kept the ones in NA as backup.

Another annoying part about this migration process is that one has to reconnect all vaults across all devices to the new remote location.

I've just discovered that in , you can run the selected text through a shell command by typing
:terminal COMMAND

for example, I just formatted a passage of JSON by selecting it and typing
:terminal python -m json.tool

So handy!

realestninja,

@christianp

" Set filetype to json and apply correct formatting

nnoremap =j :set ft=json<CR>:%!python -m json.tool<CR>

handy when pasting json content👌🏾

What are the best apps for listening to ?

The bare requirements are:

  • It shouldn't be named Spotify
  • it should be able to download episodes for offline usage

Any recommendations? 🤓

saying "I was wrong" in meetings: boring. puts the blame on you.

"I hallucinated": modern. shows you're using the latest tech. it's not your fault you're wrong.

What’s the worst online habit you’ve seen among your friends? And how would you fix it?

Terrible answers only.

We’ll select a random winner for a $5 Proton gift card.

realestninja,

@protonvpn not using a password manager.

"Oh it's ok, I use different passwords everywhere. I have a system where I have one password and make alterations for every website"

🤦🏾‍♂️

The next level would be using the same password everywhere but I feel like people who do that know that it is insanely stupid and won't tell anyone.

realestninja, to ai

I didn't expect AI to have such difficulties drawing a Rubik's Cube.

This picture is the position that I want AI to draw the cube: Basically a (solved) cube with one side rotated by 45°.

So I tried a couple of times but noticed that the AI doesn't even manage to draw a regular Rubik's Cube where there is no rotation but with correct colors. I'll be uploading some pics next.

(1/x)

realestninja,

so when AI didn't do the rotation on the first image, I pointed it out, AI then took a 4x4x4 cube instead and apparently placed it on the stove for a moment.

realestninja,

After that it created a new generation rubik's puzzle (not sure if it can be solved)

realestninja,

I tried to let AI create a basic solved cube again and iterate from there. However, AI was already struggling with that.

infosec people. As a green belt (compared to average people) is going the full proton route a decent solution to extricate myself from Google? for mail, and files. and a replacement for the lame ass Nord I'm using now?
Thank you for even a simple yes or no

realestninja,

@asbestos the calendar app is not yet en pare if you ask me but you can use Simple Calendar Pro for that.

Otherwise: mail, VPN, password manager and drive work fine.

I really like the password manager. There is room for improvement but it is in active development (also it was just released this summer)

I started my process just a couple of months ago and + covered a whole bunch of Google apps for me.

I still haven't gotten rid of googlemaps and gboard though 🙈

realestninja, to markdown

I just did a presentation for my team and I used a terminal application for presenting the slides.

All the slides are basically written in a single file. The --- line indicates the end of a slide.

It is a very comfortable way for simple presentations that can quickly be thrown together using markdown.

Check it out! ✌🏾

These temperatures in October are insane... 😵‍💫

realestninja,

@StampedingLonghorn Well it is nice but 25 degree Celsius, in Berlin, in October is WAY too warm! 🥵
I do enjoy the temperature during the day but it is a very scary indicator of how things are going...

realestninja, to DeGoogle

I'm still evaluating #grapheneOS on the #pixel6a to see if it could become my #degoogle'd daily driver.

Last weekend I took it outside for a field test. @henk and I went for a bicycle trip from Berlin to Potsdam.

Prior to this trip, I had set up #gcam (without micro g 😎) following the tutorial by @josh : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi8RwvnJiRw

realestninja,

Unfortunately I made a rooky mistake: I set up on the admin profile but forgot to add it to my user profile. I did notice it 3 or 4 hours later while we were already on the trip.

So the pictures from the first half of the trip are taken with the stock camera 🙃 and the later ones with . I do think the gcam pictures are a lot better.

I'll add some snaps next.

realestninja,

Later during the trip, I used for the first time. I was poorly prepared, not having it set up prior, but my week was too busy.
So in the evening, while we were waiting for the train back to Berlin, I went through the steps for setting up OsmAnd, which includes downloading maps.
I do have unlimited data, so that wasn't an issue, but I recommend to set it up at home if you don't have unlimited wifi. I didn't download the Germany map at this point, just the Berlin / Brandenburg maps.

realestninja,

@henk and I had already decided on a restaurant in Berlin, that we wanted to go to, so I tried to see if could provide the correct information for public transportation schedules, since this feature is in beta.

It took a while but eventually it showed the data and it was correct ;)

So at first glance, OSmAnd seems to be a viable alternative to . I will need to spend more time with it though since the UI seems to be very different to what I am used to from.

realestninja,

One last thing that I noticed, which is a major pain-point when using : I find it very hard to use the default keyboard that is provided by grapheneOS. I tend to make tons of spelling mistakes. Also swipe-typing is not available and neither is multilanguage support. I definitely need to find a replacement for before I can jump ship and use grapheneOS as a daily driver.

scy, to vim
@scy@chaos.social avatar

Anyone got suggestions for a #CLI / #terminal #colorscheme that

• provides a standard 16(! not 8!) set of ANSI colors that actually correspond to the standard colors (i.e. green looks green, blue looks blue etc.)
• has good contrast between most of these colors, so that if a CLI tool decides to use gray-on-blue status bars, it’s still readable (this is actually the most important feature)
• uses neutral or warm colors (no blue-ish tint)
• optionally: has a 256-color variant for #Vim or #Neovim

realestninja,

@scy Sounds like solarized except that it might be too blue/green 🤔
