24601: can't speak french™, so i let the funky music do the talking. j'aime : la musique pop, les transports en commun. not so much : réchauffement, haters.

avis femelles, mais sur l'internet le genre a peu importe. ne décroche que pour emma et paloma.

left field, any recommendations for spanish pop singers? i have a lot of spanish-language singers, but they're almost all mexican (many telenovela stars but i digress). planning to go to spain in the fall and would like to have a little material for osmosis. only actual spanish artist i have is soraya. for reference, mexican singers in library include belinda, maite perroni, danna paola, alicia villarreal, dulce maría, sofía reyes. (i never claimed to be anything but basic)

@KydiaMusic knowing that spotify paid mere mortals nothing and is about to pay even less — roughly what might an actual artist get from buying a cd? buying a download? buying a t-shirt?

i was feeling mh- and found myself listening to les misérables, which doesn't help. so i switched to donna summer. but macarthur park is next and i may need a new plan

a world map where the visual size of a country is based on its population. rappel : the huge green area is not russia. it's china. russia is the little yellow sliver that looks like a border.

everytime 'life on mars?' comes up in the music player, i'm reminded of its use in the pilot of the uk tv show. that did my head in when it came out in 2006, and i can still see the whole scene

my mind is blown. having grown up with the #SaintEtienne upbeat version of 'only love can break your heart', i read that the original was a slow waltz. 3/4 waltz to that?!

freecycle has been hit and miss, as is to be expected for the concept, but this weekend i found new homes for 150 mini holiday lights and a vacuum cleaner. i think @bluestocking told me about this, thank you!

i am fouling up my music stats by playing music going forward in time, where i rarely play anything old. luckily i haven't much from the 90s, it was a wasteland for my ilk until those girls did a video at st pancras

yesterday @sustainrelease mentioned césaria évora's 'club sodade' album. i hadn't listened in a while so i gave it a spin, and immediately remembered i'd seen her live soon after sodade came out. it's a long time ago and i don't remember details, but the image of a barefoot singer spinning around on a carpet, lit cigarette in hand, is one that stays with you

you know those guys who open the clear door to the refrigerated case at the store and stand there, looking at everything, as all the cold drips out? ten minutes later they pull one thing out and close the door. i would love to see a study for what they end up taking. hot dogs? sliced american cheese? bacon?

boosts are all the same, sighed @lydiaconwell. then i realised i've not ever done a or any such. here are some authors whose books or sites i've read, who are in masto, and whose feeds look human, not exclusively self-boosts.

@sarahpinsker - sarah pinsker wrote the prophetic 'a song for a new day', about a world in which gatherings and live music are banned… and wrote it well before covid happened

@molly0xfff - molly white writes about the misdeeds of crypto/web3 bros

@marthawells - martha wells wrote the murderbot series of novellas

@jomc - joanne mcneil wrote 'lurking', on the rise and demise of friendster and what it means for social media going forward

@ingrid - ingrid burrington wrote 'networks of new york', describing network-related infrastructure in field guide style

@grammargirl - mignon fogarty writes as grammar girl on, wait for it, grammar - but amusing. i've known her since this was a side hustle, and now it's a major undertaking

@bonpoteofficiel - thomas wagner writes as bon pote, in french, on environmental issues

so some terrible corp does a terrible thing, not world peace terrible but enshittification terrible.

people go on reddit to bitch about it.
some dude lifts a bunch of comments and makes a not-quite-coherent story out of it.
some site writes a clickbait headline and wraps it around the crap story.
this isn't a shit sandwich. it's more of a shit burrito
