I think I found a bug in Safari. There is an issue with background-sizes defined using lh (line-height) units.

👍 Chrome
👍 Firefox
👎 Safari/Safari Technology Preview

CodePen to reproduce an issue:

I would love to participate, make the web a better place, open a bug, and help browser engineers to fix it, but I don’t know where to start. Could you point me in the right direction, lovely browser people, please?

The absolute jazz legend. Hip-hop culture would be something absolutely different without him. By far, the most sampled jazz artist by beat producers. Bob James! Legend at NPR Tiny Desk!

Could you believe there is no JavaScript involved in this popover enter and exit animations? Just a few lines of CSS!

Thanks @argyleink. I learned all of it from your recent blog post!

The Popover enter and exit animation with pure CSS. No javascript.

You really should start using modern image formats on your website. Just look at this example of a picture from one of my recent articles.

.jpg - 177kb
.webp - 28kb
.avif - 13kb

If you look at them side by side you can't tell the difference!

Node.js 20.13 brought great improvements. My highlights:

► Watch mode is considered stable now
► The util.styleText now accepts an array of modifiers

Of course, I have articles about both of those features! I just updated both of them to reflect new announcements.

“TIL — Node v18.11.0 comes with a watch mode, so you might not need nodemon”

Interesting HTML/Accessibility fact.

HTML supports 6 levels of headings. ARIA supports 9 hierarchical levels, via aria-level property.

This is what's beautiful about modern CSS. All these modern features are so powerful by themselves, but when you combine them together, you can achieve magical results. This example by @kevinpowell of CSS animations and custom properties is incredible in its simplicity! So many more to be explored.

RSS isn't dead — quite the opposite! The best thing you can do is curate our list and make a feed to your website easily explorable.

AI pollution on the web is a real thing, and social media platforms are full of ads and tracking scripts. YouTube is full of artificially generated videos with thumbnails with shocked faces. Even books on Amazon! Books written and illustrated by robots. Can you believe this shit is legal 🤦‍♂️

Ps. I added an link to my RSS feed at the top of my website.

Please read this as what it is: anecdotal evidence. But it tells you a lot about the current status of computer science education in Germany.

My son’s teacher insists that an if statement always also needs an else.
Always.
Empty, if need be.
He wrote an empty else { }.
