Hello, I'm morgan. I make electronics and various things out of wood and on occasion, write a massive amount of code.

Very hire-able.

@jasoncoon @MLE_online Hah! that's the real rub isn't it....
I've got old printer/mill chassis that would work, so I could buy the kit and start building but long term.... where do I put it!??

(poll: is wanting to change the pitch of your roof to get more square footage a rational thought?)

One of the smart plugs in my house has gone offline, and I have no idea where it is.

I just, can't find it. Total mystery. It isn't where I thought it was, so...

@kwf I've been doing a better job at assigning Locations in Home Assistant for this same reason. I also may or may not have the MAC addresses stored in NetBox, not that I'm a huge fucking nerd or something...

I had a pretty amazing score of tools today.

Last weekend at set build, one of the other volunteers was admiring my homemade tool battery. Today you came up to me and told me that someone had his condos was getting rid of a bunch of tools because they didn't have a battery. He asked if I wanted to have them to see if I could build a battery for them like I did for my drill.

I said yes, not really expecting anything good, but he walked me out to his car and handed me a big bag of tools, all of which use the exact same type of battery used by my drill and my impact driver that I dug out of the trash a few weeks ago.

He gave me a cordless sawzall, a drill, a flashlight / lantern, and another battery charger. A whole suite of these tools now!

First thing I'm going to do is convert the incandescent flashlight/lantern to LED

morgan,
@morgan@leds.social avatar

@MLE_online rad! does you battery pack use the original charger?

@jacqueline if you haven't encountered it yet, might also check out InvenTree. FOSS, self hostable. I've heard it's harder to use than PartsBox but I've manage to get all of my regular parts in there, BOMs for 3 or 4 designs. Seems to work once I got it all set up.

    @kwf I feel like you're missing the bigger picture here, without a diverse lineup of speakers that feels welcoming to a diverse crowd, the hallway track is just going to be the same conversations year after year. might as well just read the reply guy comments at a certain point.

    morgan,
    @morgan@leds.social avatar

    @kwf I totally get that, and feel it myself, (my shits hella unraveled this year). but why engage with it at all then?

    Still for full-time work. Would absolutely love to do some related work, / firmware development and/or work would be amazing.

    / / would all be awesome too, I've really grown as a Django developer over the last ~5+ years.

    / / / have all been the bread and butter for years, would happily continue with that kind of work as well, big + for /

    Heh, small victory in a kerfuffle with a chinese PCB supplier. I sent them a panel with a bunch of variations of the same layout. The supplier came back asking for three times the amount of money I already paid for the order since the files "contained more than one design". I ended up adding a ground pour and some random useless traces to the tooling area around the layouts, and replacing V-cuts with mouse bites, and apparently now they're happy and sent the files to production. #electronics

    morgan,
    @morgan@leds.social avatar

    @jaseg That's been such a battle for pretty much all my 3d PCBs, in particular The Cacoffiny (https://oit.cloud/projects/cacoffiny/). Just no good way to convince it's all one project so I've also moved to single ground pour and running more complicated test tracks across subboards.

    morgan,
    @morgan@leds.social avatar

    @jaseg sounds about right, in early attempts (because each board had it's own plane for organization purposes) I'd run a 'pre-fab' script that did things like renaming all the ground pours to common name.

    This old project popped up in my Facebook "memories" and I had completely forgotten about it. I never made any more of them, because it was basically just a Pretty Arduino and how many Arduinos do we really need.

    @North still quite a good looking board design

    The @hackaday Superconference bonus event is GOOOO!

    This is an extra day on the beginning of where a bunch of us degenerates ride the Coast Starlight down to LA instead of flying. I get on in San Jose, but others got on in Oakland, as well as a big group last year who got on in Portland the day before and got an EVEN EXTRA 24 hours of hacking on a train.

    This is an informal event, so you just need to make sure you end up on the right train, which is the southbound arriving at LA Union Station on Thursday night, 11/2. The train arrives in LA around 9-10PM, in time for either a late dinner or going straight to your hotels.

    Last year I recommended business class since that would ensure that we all ended up in the same car and had access to the diner car, but due to current equipment shortages Business Class is unavailable, so I'm getting a coach ticket. We spent essentially the whole day last year hanging out in the lounge car, so coach vs private room class doesn't matter. I'd recommend packing your own meals if you're in coach, since the diner car only offers meals to coach as capacity allows, and none of the food options on the train are very good. I usually pick up a Subway sandwich on the way to the train station.

    morgan,
    @morgan@leds.social avatar

    @kwf @hackaday if I make it this year I'll be on the train, hoping on at Reno or Sac
