My little brother directed a movie that has Saru from Discovery in it, which prompted me to look up how many kinds of humanoid alien they've run into over the last 60 yrs of Star Trek. Turns out a) it's hundreds, and b) at some point they retconned all of them (and us) into having a common ancestor.
