I’m kinda surprised the article doesn’t mention IONNA. I mean there’s not a lot of meat there, but 7 major auto makers are planning a pretty significant increase to these stations (30k, and they’re already starting in 2024). They’re supposed to be pretty nice, with access to food, restrooms, etc. similar to a normal gas station.

I’m smack dab in the middle of the Bible Belt in the US, where EVs are evil, but I rented an Ioniq 5 to test it out. Charging stations were by far the most anxiety-inducing part of the experience.

kyle,

I just wanted to say I love the username OP.

Journey before destination!

kyle,

Jade City is actually amazing. I feel for her, but bookstores are just gonna present the most popular because they’re trying to make money. Bookstores cooler than B&N might have a “like that, try this” kind of thing which would get attention.

Tolkien and Jordan also have recent TV shows, which definitely influence what books the stores will display.

Quick edit to say if you want a good fantasy book written by a woman, try Jade City.

kyle,

For sure, they’re incredible. I’ve only personally read Jade City, but haven’t circled back yet. I’m assured by friends the whole series is great.

Just wanted to point it out since the fantasy genre is so freaking male dominated.

kyle,

Displaying images of 9/11 to new yorkers is pretty savage.

kyle,

Slang that went something like “god damn!” -> “gyat damn!” -> “gyat!”

Generally said when you see a big booty.

When you get a call from a middle-aged male coworker who had tried to coerce you (younger female) into letting him drop you off at home on a Saturday night: do you call back, text, email, or ignore?

Please read post for full context; any help or input is appreciated! I disclosed sensitive info to a close female coworker (let’s say Ann), who is best friends with the male coworker mentioned (Ned). I’m sure she told him, but then they both seemed to want me to still tell him directly. I did because I believe in doing the...

kyle,

You should really talk to HR. If you’re super duper non-confrontational, I see maybe two other options:

  • Chastise Ann for not having your back. Make her tell Ned to stop being a creep
  • Talk to Ned’s boss informally and say Ned has made uncomfortable comments/advances.
kyle,

Dude it’s so fucking good. This is one of the few movies on this sub I’ve seen and can vouch for. Karate rock band fighting motorcycle ninjas?? Incredible.

kyle,

It’s so true. It makes me so happy you watched it.

kyle,

A fellow man of culture I see

kyle,

I’ve only read Cradle, the other stuff is as good? What should be next?

After years of being told I was part Cherokee, someone was mad that I wasn't. (lemmy.world)

He is now denying the validity of dna tests. I don’t want to say the past 35 years of having him treat me worse than he treats his sister had anything to do with his assumptions of my dna, but he was upset to learn that I am more Irish than him. I wonder what he thought of my mother before these results…

kyle,

Sorta depends on the tribe I think. At least for me, my grandfather has his card (Choctaw) and that was the only requirement for me. My DNA test showed something like 0.1% native.

kyle,

Fellas, look up poses for your girl. Get the homies to help.

kyle,

The bloody handjob scene was awful, and I will never look at rusty scissors the same way. Parts of that movie made me physically ill.

Also on the list for me is Bad Boy Bubby.

Google Photos will soon more easily let you block someone's face from Memories (9to5google.com)

One of the best features of Google Photos is the app’s ability to show old photos as a “Memory,” but sometimes showing a specific person isn’t what you want. Now, Google Photos is preparing to make it easier to hide someone’s face from Memories.

kyle,

I’m not sure if it affects the Google Home device, but it’s definitely possible to block certain people already. I did that on my phone because it kept showing things with my ex.

Vanguard takes screenshots of your PC every time you play a game (twitter.com)

Vanguard takes screenshots of your PC every time you play a game. Every time you play a game a function is called to screenshot your PC’s screen, in case Vanguard thinks you might have something suspicious, it screenshots your ENTIRE PC screen (all monitors)....

kyle,

The screenshots are awful, but your statement is pure speculation, and likely just wrong. It’s pretty easy to encrypt images.

kyle,

I know PII is protected, and a company like Riot is audited. I’m sure something in their TOS says they can collect the information, as BS or unenforceable as it is.

They’re probably multi-cloud, but I know they are a huge AWS customer because they have a giant booth at re:Invent every year. AWS has pretty easy ways to encrypt data and even detect if it has PII. They’d encrypt or redact the images because the potential of capturing HIPAA or PCI information is too great a risk.

If anything, trust that the company is profit driven and will avoid that risk. They’re still garbage and kernel level anti-cheat sucks, but we shouldn’t be spouting that unencrypted stuff as fact.

South Dakota governor, a potential Trump running mate, writes in new book about killing her dog (apnews.com)

The Guardian obtained a copy of Noem’s soon-to-be released book, “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward.” In it, she tells the story of the ill-fated Cricket, a 14-month-old wirehaired pointer she was training for pheasant hunting....

kyle,

People attacked him for his character, that he couldn’t be president for this. And I agree, those in high office must be held to the highest standard.

But my god, where are we now??

kyle,

I didn’t have anything major, but I got strep a lot as a kid, a couple times a year or so. Without antibiotics, it might’ve caused permanent damage.

Not life threatening but I have terrible eye sight. Enough that I wouldn’t be a good farmer, everything I did would have to be within 2-3 feet of me.

kyle,

What can I say, I can vaguely see things at arms length.

kyle,

I had to look this up, didn’t know about Bowie. He had underage groupies, at least as young as 15 (Lori Mattix). Apparently she remembers that time fondly, but today we would rightly call it coercion and pedophilia. She was treated kindly, probably given all the drugs she “wanted”, but that’s still a child.

There’s a counter argument about how later in life, he refused a kissing scene between him and Jennifer Connelly during Labyrinthe, and that shows he understands the age gap is wrong.

I don’t regularly listen to David Bowie. I can sometimes separate the art from artist, but I’m now gonna have trouble knowing he was having sex with (raping) a 15 year old girl.
