@48kRAM yeah battery life was awful on calls, i used to play a ton with these back in 2004-2006 for listening random calls and weird noises and i used to carry like 10 batteries on my backpack.

and yeah, i remember choosing one phone over other just because it had like 30 mins more

Neat, finally found the 15v PSU I modified for use with my older IBM 5140 and was able to test this one I found for $20. I honestly wasn’t that surprised that it worked. These things are absolute tanks. Keyboard is sunken in for some reason but also still works. Probably siting on top of the RAM haha. Very glad to see this working fine. The backlight has a heck of a hum. #retrocomputing

At some point soon I’ll give it a full teardown, cleaning and ram upgrade.

Traded an old phone i was selling on Facebook for this old spam appliance, i mainly got it for the case and some parts, it has a ton of potential for a nice low power firewall or something like that.

Bulging caps on the motherboard

Also just noticed these cables soldered directly to the parallel port, i guess for the LEDs on the front or something

kiwa,
@kiwa@bitbang.social avatar

@foone i remember years ago when I first got broadband i had a webpage with a button that controlled a lamp using a relay and a webcam pointing to it, i used the parallel port for that, it was fun for a while
