keith,
@keith@cute.is avatar

@taber i did that this is the curated list but i still have to make decisions :(

keith,
@keith@cute.is avatar

@taber unfortunately they also have to deal with me, we were picking a shade / solid color for the WC and asked what about this instead https://www.paretewalls.com/forwalls/p/show-me-your-peacock

@taber there are only three cities that can feasibly host it, right? my money is on basel, since it's on the french/german border

have been invited by a friend to an escape room that is entirely in the dark??? just seems like a cheap way to not have to build anything imo

Eleventy has been a great web tool for me, but also a foundation I built our starters at on @glitchdotcom - for free. Any time we needed help @zachleat was there to give it (free!). becoming a backer is the least I could do tbh!! https://fediverse.zachleat.com/@zachleat/112485776015229718

OpenAI is a company built on stealing things from other people. I'm not surprised by this, but they're about to finally meet someone with a team of lawyers that made Disney pay up.

it seems that local technical are on life support in many cities. the news about really set me back this week knowing the impact they have had on many women in the industry.

i would love to hear some positive news about groups that meet regularly that are thriving. link me!

I'm so sad for the students who trusted this school, and frustrated at how long this took. They changed their name YEARS ago to erase SEO for their first few years of scandals, and it was clear to everyone in the bootcamp biz how much of a house of cards they were building.

Some professional news: https://blog.glitch.com/post/my-last-day-at-fastly/

Today is my last day at Fastly and Glitch! I wrote about the last few years since we've been acquired, and what the Glitch team has been able to bring to the organization. I'm so proud of the team and excited about the direction Fastly is going (WASM all the way, baby!!)

I was hired five years ago (!!) as a Glitch user building fun lil apps, and I'm excited to return to building on Glitch as a user. See you on Glitch.com 🎏 💞

I grew up around gambling addiction and innumeracy, which are not the same thing but a frequent comorbidity would not surprise me

I also grew up around SimCity, which inoculated me against the innumeracy at the level of budgeting and cash flow.

So what was left over was an appetite for calculated risk.

I think if you’re in a shitty situation, you should figure out what it takes to roll the dice and get out of it

If it won’t ruin you, you should jump

zombo.com announces a $30 million Series A, applying generative AI to finally deliver on its promise to be everything to all people

investors flee the stock market, causing major indices to erase all gains since 2020

This is always the case with "magical" solutions. They moved the cashiers off site, paid them significantly less, and made them watch you wander around a store putting things in your cart.

feel like what i should be doing is setting up a consultancy to fix all of the AI legacy code in two years

keith,
@keith@cute.is avatar

I realized this weekend we've got all of these LLMs spitting out new code, being fit in to existing systems.

In a few years, all of those become legacy services that no one actually wrote the code for. Going to be a lot more work to maintain those services.

keith,
@keith@cute.is avatar

@danilo lol same, what is wrong with us

danilo, to random
@danilo@hachyderm.io avatar

This is from a C-suite person at a company you’ve heard of. They’re responsible for product.

And THIS is why I have spent the last year developing proficiency in using LLMs as part of my development workflow:

It’s great to be able to detect a crock of shit.

There’s no universe where AI makes features “functionally free.”

The complexity of a software product cannot be handwaved away through magic tensor beans. Features are more than just code. Features are a social contract with the user.

keith,
@keith@cute.is avatar

@danilo i just watched out a LLM spit out code that would have brought down a webserver w/ an infinite loop, very nervous for when these c-levels start experimenting with launching insecure features built entirely by llms 🥴
