This building at 35 Whitefield Road in the Ibrox area of Glasgow has always struck me as being potentially interesting, but rather frustratingly, I've never been able to work out its original purpose.

The new segregated cycle lane along Bridgegate is taking shape, and promises to be a vast improvement. The amount of time allowed to clear the junction, however, is concerning. By my calculation, the intergreen is about six seconds. I believe it should be nearly double that, given the width of the junction (about 25m). Bridgegate-Stockwell St-Clyde St. (1/2)

Today is an acid test of my plan to give up motor vehicles and use ebikes for my transport needs. It's November, it's cold, it's raining, I'm depressed, I need to take a load of rubbish into the recycling centre at Castle Douglas, a 40 Km round trip.

This is going to be tough.

@amadeus If you can stretch to it, Gates drive and Rohloff box. Wash the belt with soapy water regularly, and change the oil in the box annually.

Someone's havin' a laff. New 5mph signs on the cycle path at Clyde Place. Have they ever tried riding at 5mph?
Can we assume that a 5mph limit will be adopted for all vehicles across the city? Does anyone know of other locations where this is a thing?

1/2 The segregated cycle lanes along London Rd A74 out to the velodrome and beyond are really starting to shape up. Nice soft landscaping here and there. What would it take for cities to retrofit or supplement their #bike counters with #eBike detectors? The growth of #eBikes for #transportation trips should not be underestimated. Maybe an EMF or heat signature? How do the standard ones distinguish multiple bikes at once? #pdxBikes #bikeTooter

@RoyBrander @dx @enobacon I've noticed that many cycle counters and traffic lights that use induction loops embedded in the tarmac do not detect my long wheelbase cargobike. It has an aluminium frame and belt drive, but then so do many normal-size bikes. It's irritating, to say the least, sitting at a red stop light, and having to wait for another bike to arrive to trigger the lights to change.

@geomannie I don't know enough about planning laws and local politics to understand why these decisions are made. It's too easy to despair. My meagre fightback is to take my custom to independent coffee shops in cycle-friendly places. It is exhausting though.

@theotherotherone @bookstodon @vfrmedia @librarians I remember our school library changing to Dewey Decimal in the 1970s. It felt like the dawn of a new age. It must have been quite a task to reorder and relabel the shelves, and write the catalogue. No wonder the librarian looked so old.
